Welcome to Panasonic Plasma Fail

Greetings, and welcome to Panasonic Plasma Fail. This blog is intended as a site for consolidating consumer complaints about Panasonic Plasma television sets purchased between 2007 and 2009. If you are having problems with your Panasonic plasma television set not turning on, please add the details in the comments thread.

You might have reached this site by typing in one of the following search phrases:
  • my panasonic plasma will not turn on
  • red light blinks seven times
  • what is wrong with my panasonic plasma
  • blinking red light of death
  • faulty power supply on panasonic plasma
If this describes your situation, you have come to the right place. In recent months, a flood of consumers have reported that their Panasonic plasma television sets died unexpectedly. According to some forum experts, these failures are the result of faulty power boards that were shipped with the units.

The bad news is that Panasonic has not done much to publicly acknowledge this problem, and it is very difficult to reach their customer support on the telephone. Most people who have encountered this problem after the warranty has lapsed have either (a) paid hundreds of dollars for costly repairs or (b) given up and purchased a replacement set.

Within the electronics industry, a 3% failure rate is widely accepted as standard. However, a cursory search of Google reveals that an unusally high number 2007/2008 Panasonic plasma sets have displayed the dreaded "blinking red lights of death." In order to maintain its reputation for quality customer service, Panasonic should really do something to remedy this situation. They should either fix the television sets free of charge, or replace the television sets with working units.

There are dozens upon dozens of complaints about these Panasonic television sets posted to various forums. If we can consolidate these complaints in one place, we may be able to put enough pressure on Panasonic to take action.

  1. I bought the TH-50PZ85U in December of 2008, 10 blinking red lights, won't come on. I'm going to call the concierge service and see where that takes me. Be reading these posts, I'm expecting Panasonic to do nothing, in which case I will never buy anything Panasonic ever again. That's too bad because the picture was great. Doesn't matter how great the picture is if the damn thing won't turn on.

  2. Sure glad I found this page.

My TH37PX50U died after 5 years. I get the 7 blinking lights. Tech said it s the Z-SUS board and maybe more.
Panasonic support is rude and worthless
If they can't suck anymore money from you they don't want to help.
My old Magnavox 27" is still working fine after 20 years of use and this POS died after 5.
I was considering a new 50" plasma and thanks to this site it will not be a Panasonic for sure.
There definitely needs to be a class action against these crooks.

  5. Panasonic just refused to help me with this issue. The only thing they offered was to find me a service place near me, which I can find myself. The dullard operator was dumbfounded when I asked if the company was planning a recall or replacement of the television. "Uuuuhhh...no...I don' thing sow...".

Therefore we have to do a class action lawsuit. Who is spearheading this? I will join the bandwagon, pick up a pitchfork and torch, and burn Panasonic to the ground. $1900 and this is what I get, some worthless shitwit on the phone who can't even speak intelligently.

I have two options, go to Best Buy to get it serviced (still under extended service warranty) or buy a new one.

  6. I purchased a Panasonic 50 inch plasma TV (Model TC-50HD18) from Costco in late August/early September 2008 from Costco. Paid a little over $1K then. Costco has an automatic extension of the 1 year MFR warranty to 2 years. On June 9, 2011, I went to turn on the TV and nothing happened. No blinking lights, in fact, the power indicator light does not illuminate at all. Just plain dead. I unplugged the set and plugged it back in again a few times, and the set makes a sound like it is receiving power, but does nothing else. Remote control, with new batteries, does not work. Power switch on TV does nothing. I am appalled at the short lifespan of this TV! Panasonic needs to make this right! Class action lawsuit time indeed!

  7. Have just read several posts on this forum, can't believe how many people have been affected by this! TV went off last night and when I tried to switch it on again I got the 7 blinks then pause before the 7 blinks came on again. Have just spent best part of today looking into what the problem is then contacted panasonic just to be told they will not cover costs as outwith warranty! They advised I should call nearest repair centre and gave me the number. I called the repair centre and for them to just have a look at it they will charge $145AUD and have to take the TV away! Who knows what the final bill will cost! I paid over $2500AUD only 4 years ago and am disgusted that a BIG name (or so I thought) product like this has broken down after what is a short life for a TV. I will not be purchasing any panasonic products again.

  8. Yep - Another one here !!
Set bought in 2008, shut itself down with 3 blinks a month ago. Worked intermittently for a while. Unplugged - waited 1hr - plugged in again - worked for 3 days. 3 blinks this morning - held in power switch for 10 seconds - now I have 10 blinks. I'm not even going to bother going through Panasonic, and won't buy their stuff ever again. I'll now have a hugely expensive ornament. What happened to the Law Suit ?

  11. Purchased TH-50PZ85U A March 6th 2009 at Costco. Died June 15th 2011: 2 Years 3 Months. Blink code = 2. Costco Concierge service said if I didn't buy it with their America Express card they can't help me. Panasonic referred me to a "Certified" Repair center which is some dude working out of his garage in Aurora Colorado who wants to charge me $450 just to look at it. This NOT A BUSINESS is a racketeering operation. Any word on class action anywhere for us?

  12. I have a TH-C46FD18 plasma that gave me the "10 blinks of death" the other day. After reading many of these posts I decided to try and fix the problem myself. Funny thing is...Panasonic claims they don't even know what the different blinks mean, even after providing the model and serial numbers. I was told by the representative that i would have to contact a licensed Panasonic repair shop to find out what the lights mean....I think its sad that the company can spend the time and money to not only design the product but test it, realize they should add a trouble shooting indicator, and then mass produce it....without knowing what the indicators mean is total BS. never again....

  16. We bought a TC-P42C2 -- 42" Plasma -- in December 2010 (six months ago) and the set stopped working this morning. The red light is blinking 10 times. Called Panasonic and the rep had me unplug it from the surge protector and plug it directly into the wall. No improvement. They have opened a warranty case with a local repair shop. I'm going to call them tomorrow to get an appointment. Very disappointed to hear that a Panasonic product is this problematic.

  17. I bought my Panasonic 42 inch Plasma (TH-42PX80U) in Sept of 2008, Yesterday the tv would not turn on and there were no lights at all. Just a completely dead tv. I called Panasonic and they told me it is out of warantee and gave my the nearest repair facility. I brought it there and it is a defective power supply (P-Board) I am now having the repair man fax the estimate to Panasonic and they will review it and call me back to let me know if they will cover the costs. I loved my TV, when I thought it would last me more that 2 and 1/2 years. If they do not repair my TV free of charge then I would definitly take part in this class action law-suit.

  18. just had my Plasma fail today. its a TH-50PZ800U. got 2 blinks from the red LED and not turning on. I did however have a brief moment of joy by unplugging it at the wall waiting 2 minutes and plugging back in. Worked until i turned it off again now back to square one. Really not happy as it cost an absolute fortune when i purchased it, thinking i was buying a top end unit. We learn by our mistakes i guess.

  19. My TH-42PZ80U that i bought in November 2008 died one month out of warranty. I tried to turn it on and it made a 'click' sound then nothing. No power, no flashing red lights, nothing. Called Panasonic and they told me that it was basically my problem and they wouldn't do anything for me. TV repair guy told me it would be 400.00 to fix it!! screw that. I have an LG now and I love it.

  23. 50" Plasma (believe Model TC-50HD18) from Costco that lasted less than 2 years before getting first blinking lights, now it's doing it every time I turn off the TV. As others have said, absolutely the last time I will ever by a Panasonic TV. Should've gone with a Vizio at the time; hands down a much better set.

Would love it if a class action lawsuit was initiated.

Purchased a p50pz85 a little over 2 years ago. About a week ago I started getting the dreaded 10 blinking lights of death. I've managed to get it to turn on sporadically through diligent unplugging and plugging back in, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the only light I see coming from it are those 10 blinking lights.

At this point I'm so fed up with Panasonic that I'd rather leave it in the closet and wait for a class action lawsuit then pocket the check, than go through (further) hassle of getting them to fix the thing. Recent attempts at customer service have been laughably pointless, and a waste of time. From what I understand if my set blinked 6 times I'd have a shot at a free repair - not so much with 10.

  25. I too have a problem with my Panasonic TH50PZ85u, purchased in 2008. 6 months ago we had a two blink problem and had to have the power supply replaced. After much "negotiation" with Panasonic they agreed to pay for the part. Now I have a 10 blink failure. Pansonic not very helpful, get and estimate send it in and we will see if something can be done. Two power supplies in 3 years, I'd say I am through with any Pansonic product.

Not turning on and a red light blinking near the power button...bought my t.v.s through Costco and what do you know my warranty ended 3 months ago is only willing to send out a tech at my cost. Not blaming Costco by any means but it figures the damn tv would go out just after the warranty expires... Im hoping that if I bring this faulty manufacturer problem to their attention, that Costco will be willing to work with me on the issue.. we'll see.

  29. Unfortunately, it looks like I get to join the "Blinking light of death" club. My TH-50PZ80U just stopped working 2 days ago, and I get the 10 blinking lights. Upon Googling, I tried different power sources and unplugging and plugging it back in many times, to no avail. It looks like Panasonic is not supporting this defect that they seem to be aware of, so it looks like I am on the hook for the repair. Just for the fun of it, I will contact Panasonic this coming week.

  32. Hi There,

Like most of you I have had a problem with my Panasonic 42' Plasma TV and I thought I would share my story to possibly help anyone in a similar situation.

I purchased my TV in Melbourne Australia in Dec 2007 from a Leading Department Store, for $AUS 2,800.00 . After enjoying the TV for 2 and half years, without warning it wouldn't turn on I had become the victim of the 7 deadly blinks!!!

I called the Panasonic Services center, and was given their usual story that it was out of warranty and a repair report need to be made. I had to pay $190.00 AUS to have the TV picked up and taken to the repair center to be told 2 days later that the SC Board was stuffed (which I already knew thanks to this site) and that the estimated cost of repairs would be $2900.00. They advised i could buy a new TV for less or speak to their customer service department to see if Panasonic would contribute something towards the costs.

After writing to Panasonic the best they would offer me was a 50% discount on a new 42' Plasma.

I felt that this was pretty poor given the TV Cost almost 3K and I had used it less than 3 years. I called Consumer affairs in my state (Victoria), they advised me to take the issue up with the Retailer and not Panasonic. The contract was between me and the retailer and ultimately the retailer had failed to provide me with a product "Fit for Purpose" and of "Merchantable quality" pursuant to our Fair Trading Laws. This was my statutory right as a consumer and therefor I don't need to by any rubbish extended warranties as the law protected me to this effect.

After making a complaint with the Retailer on their customer service line, the store manager from the store were I purchased the TV called me to discuss the situation. She insisted I speak with Panasonic (as I thought she would). I explained to her that I was not required to take the matter up with Panasonic as there was no contract in place between myself and Panasonic. Quoting her the information from Consumer Affairs, I insisted that the retailer was obliged to fix this problem and that i was prepared to take the matter further with the assistance of Consumer Affairs.

After short debate she conceded that I was right and I was offered a replacement 42' Plasma TV of my choice, at no extra cost. I ended up going with a Sony LCD

Simply my advise to anyone in Australia with a similar case to mine, is don't bother taking the issue up with Panasonic. Call consumer Affairs in your state for advice and take the matter up directly with the store where you purchased the product. Don't be fooled with their argument that the warranty is offered by the manufacturer and not the retailer, or that you should have purchased an extended warranty!! This is complete rubbish and simply a line most retailer's use to overcome these issues. Insist that the contract is between you and the store not Panasonic!! And if need be you will take the matter further.

The point is that pursuant to Fair trading Laws the retailer is required to provide a product of merchantable quality in respect to its cost. A 12 month warranty is not good enough when the product costs almost $3,000.00.

I hope this information is helpful as it was in my case.

  35. Bought TH-50PZ80U in 8/2008. Within days of getting it on the wall I had 10 blinking lights. Panasonic covered the cost of having a local shop come out and replace a few parts.

Fast forward to 7/2011, same issue is happening again. Of course the warranty is finished, but I should have known this was a lemon when I bought it.

No love from Panasonic, just call the local shop and pay for the repairs out of pocket. I shared this blog with the rep I was chatting with, hopefully at least he got a chuckle out of it.

I have a Panasonic Plasma TV TX-P42G10B which I purchased from Currys on 29th August 2009 which makes it under 2 years old.

Recently the TV started to switch itself off. On trying to turn it back on again either from the power button or the remote sometimes it will turn on for a while and then turn off. Other times it is trying to turn on with the red light flashing but not turning to green and the TV on.

I now have Currys coming out to look at it next thursday 21st July 2011 and they have already charged me £60 on my Debit Card just for the call out.

I have told them that I have Googled this particular fault and it is a well known one in most Panasonic Plasma TVs (TX Range particularly) both here in the UK plus America.

This fault is apparantly know as "THE RED LIGHT OF DEATH" and seems to be a fault in the Power Supply to the inner workings of the TV.

I have therefore told Currys that in my opinion this is an inherant fault and under the SALE oF GOODS ACT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR.

I made the person who I booked the repair with note that I was paying the £60 under protest. She did say that if it is indeed an inherant fault that my £60 will be refunded and I will not be charged.

Perhaps I am being over pessimistic here, but I think I have a battle on over the cost of repair...but we will see and I will keep informed here how I go on.

    In the meantime... http://panasonicplasmafail.blogspot....asma-fail.html

  38. Hi all in America and thank goodness for this Forum. I live in the UK (Wales) and this particular problem is rampant here as well.

I have the Currys repair man coming out next thursday 21st July 2011 and he will be handed the below letter...

    16th July 2011

    The Manager
    Currys Repair Service

    Dear Sir,
I purchased this Panasonic TX-P42G10B from Currys online on 29th. August 2009 order reference 7446345571. Recently the TV started showing off in so much that on pressing the start up power button either from the Remote Control or or the TV switch the red light power light would flicker but the TV would refuse to turn on. Occasionally the TV would switch on only to switch itself off again after a short passage of time.

On contacting your Service Dept. I was informed that as the set was outside of the usual one year Warranty period then I would be charged £60 (which I have already paid) for your engineer to come out and possibly take the set away for assessment. I would then be charged extra to put right whatever problem there is with the set.

Please note that I advised your lady that this set is still under 2 years old and I believe this particular problem is inherent with many Panasonic models of plasma TV, including the TX-P range, and because of this I expect the 1979 Sale Of Goods Act to cover this particular repair, and therefore I am requesting that I am not charged.

The lady did say that if indeed Currys repair found this problem to be inherent then my £60 would be refunded and I would not be charged further.

There is lots of evidence both here and in America in respect of complaints about this particular range of Panasonic to the extent that this fault with Panasonic TVs is commonly known as 'The Red Light Of Death'!

http://panasonicplasmafail.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome-to-panasonic-plasma-fail.html (just a little from it)........

my panasonic plasma will not turn on
    red light blinks seven times
what is wrong with my panasonic plasma
    blinking red light of death
faulty power supply on panasonic plasma

If this describes your situation, you have come to the right place. In recent months, a flood of consumers have reported that their Panasonic plasma television sets died unexpectedly. According to some forum experts, these failures are the result of faulty power boards that were shipped with the units.

With respect I would hazard a guess that your repair department has dealt with very many Panasonic Plasma TVs with this particular problem over the past say 3 years? I would be very interested to know your figures on that as I would expect an efficient repair service department to keep that information? In fact, if you where a public organisation I would put in a 'Freedom Of Information' request to obtain that detail.

In the meantime, please find enclosed some pages taken from blogs which complain about purchased Panasonic Plasma TVs. which either fail to turn on properly or turn themselves off unexpectedly. Actually, this
'Red Light Of Death' subject and complaint is very easy to find in many forums in both the UK and America.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course, particularly as to whether Currys intend charging me fro this repair or not.

    Best Regards

  39. Bought our TH-42PZ77U in November 2007. It was manufactured September 2007. I don't turn the TV on that often which probably helped it to last this long. But alas, I come home yesterday(07-15-2011) and turn it on only to have it turn itself off and give the 7 blinks of death. Called Panasonic first thing in the morning and they are setting up a service person to come out and look at it at no charge. I can only hope that they will repair at little to no charge and get the tv working again.

  41. Panosonic ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

My 58 inch died a blinking death one month out of warranty, here is the response I got from them, bad grammer, mis-spelling's and all.
I'm surprised they spelled Panasonic correctly.

Thank you for your inquiry. Panasonic utilizes the blinking light as a form of self-diagnostics, similar to the ?check engine? light in your car. If you?ve ever experienced that, you know that a check engine light could indicate anything from a loose gas cap to a major failure.

Panasonic uses the number of times the light blinks, to aid the technician in trouble-shooting the problem. The blinking light indicates an area of concern and helps the technician to isolate the problem and order the correct parts. This in turn speeds up the repair process, keeps parts cost down, and helps both you and the servicer by allowing the technician to complete a repair in one trip in most cases.

Some Internet blogs claim the blinks are an indication of major quality problems, however, that?s not the case. In fact, a recent leading consumer magazine rated Panasonic the most reliable of 18 major manufacturers of both plasma and LCD models. Base on the information you provided, our notes indicate after unsuccessing resolving the issue via phone, you were provided the closes authorize service center information.

  42. I guess I'm lucky. I have the TH42PZ80U, purchased in '08. Exactly 3 years from the day of puchase, I started getting the 2 blink 15V SOS error code. Called Panny tech support and was told to unplug TV and all connected peripherals, unplug HDMI cables and wait 10-15 minutes, then plug all back in and reconnect. Well, it worked but only for about a week. Called tech support again and they didn't even bother to walk me through the reset procedure -- just referred me to a local service shop and said I was out of warranty. No mention of PS problems and pretended to have no idea what the problem was.
Now I have the problem every 3-4 days. I'm still able to reset the TV but occasionally I have to do it twice before it starts working again. Guess I'll keep doing it until I'm no longer successful in resetting it.
I paid what I consider to be top dollar for this brand because I wanted something that would last awhile. If I had known that a Panasonic TV would only last 3 years, I would have just bought a cheap throw-away LCD, which is probably what I will do when this one finally dies. *Nobody* builds quality any more.

  43. I am posting on a British Web Site (I live in the UK) about this. I have posted here previously but here is an update copied and pasted from our What Hi Fi Web Site......

    Wed, Jul 20 2011, 10:29PM

I do not believe it.....9.20AM on 21st July 2011 and two Currys guys from Currys offshoot entitled 'Know How have already been and gone with the set. No attempt at all to try and fix the set as would have happened in days gone by. Exclamation Mark

I suppose thay are just 'the collectors' (no offence meant of course) with not a person who could fix it in sight.

The have told me that the repair should take around 10 days. it's a good job I have my latest TV to look at in the Lounge which I purchased because I wanted a bigger 50" screen. (My missus likes them big Exclamation Mark )

So on a piece of paper handed to me it says

Your product is in safe hands

We'll diagnose the problem and fit new parts in no time

Just to remind you, well reconfirm the date it will be back

If where having a problem getting hold od spare parts we'l let you know

You can track your repair.....go to Knowhow.Com and enter referance number.

So now I wait. If this thing goes to 10 days....I have been waiting 9 days for them to come after paying £60 already, so that will be almost 3 weeks, perhaps at best.

I gave the repair Men my letter in a sealed envelope so that is all I can do right now. Please anyone I hope that my post can be kept 'alive' so as to keep aware of this particular problem.

    Thanks all

    Best Regards

By the way.....when the 'repair' men called and they asked what was wrong I showed them the TV would not power up.

Doing nothing to the set one said "Have you got a Screwdriver"? I went and got a pozidrive screwdriver and he proceeded to take the TV off it's normal stand!

And there is me thinking he wanted to take the back off the set to inspect it!

Says it all really about Currys Service does it not?

Oh dear....another instance of great customer service there! Currys do get a battering on here and rightly so as it's never good news when they are mentioned. So the repair guys don't even carry a screwdriver then, i'm wondering what happens when they arrive at a home that doesn't have a screwdriver? Surely it's THE most basic tool they should carry with them as how else would you take it off the stand! Muppets!

  44. Date of manufacture- August 2007
    Model Number- TH-42PZ77U
Failure mode- 7 blinks of death
    Failure date- July 2011
The picture was still bright and beautiful until... FAIL. I haven't decided whether to pursue repair, SC board and power board OK, problem resides in D board or SU/SD board, I'm not doing the "shade tree mechanic" thing and just replace parts until it works, it's too expensive a proposition. I have a marvelous repairman but he has to make a profit too. What to do? It is a big paperweight for now until I get some $$$. I, like everyone else here, was seduced by the excellent picture and unaware of the underlying defect(s). No product can be 100% but massive anecdotal evidence here would result in a recall if this product was a car!

  45. My Panosonic Plasma took a hike the other day. It is the usual 10 blinks of the power light and nothing. I have always had good feelings about their products, but this just may cause me to rethink any future purchase of their products. When it appears that a excessive number of these types of TVs made by Panosonic are malfuncting, then something is clearly wrong and repairs should be honnored by the maufacturer without charge.

    Very, very disappointed.

  46. Well this is quite the surprise. I purchased the TV new at Circuit City a few years ago... I know i'm out of warranty but seems pointless and looks like I will get no where with my attempts to fix it. The Plasma worked no issues last night, I turned it off and went to bed, woke up this morning to play some Call of Duty and the 7 Blinks is what I get. This Plasma has been RARELY used and is probably why it took so long for the problem to show up for me but I'm Extremely Angry that this Plasma has always been in A/C and had the 2hr Shut off enabled to insure there would be a long life. NOT. I have always swore by Panasonic telling everyone I know they are what to buy, not it will be a daily battle to do the exact opposite.

  47. The thing is that this problem is really really starting to show now as sets get to between 2 and 4 years old.
Goodness know how many there are out there who nothing of this Forum but have had a FAIL.
This problem will only show worse now as sets get older.
And what of Panasonic? Well they really do not want to know. They won't admit that there is a problem and either properly sort out free repairs or replace sets. I will NEVER buy any Panasonic Products EVER again!

I certainly will not be buying another Panasonic and will recommend against any of there products again. They should declare a recall or request consumers contact them with proof for a replacement part.

  52. Bought a Panasonic TC-P50S1 in December of 2009. Last night we got the 10 blinking red light. I called the store where I purchased the TV and the Nerd Crew estimated it would be $150 for the labor and between $500 and $1,200 for the A-Board replacement part. I paid $900 for the TV in 2009... They suggested I call Panasonic. Since the TV was only slightly over the factory warranty, if Panasonic would extend the warranty it would cost me nothing to repair. So I called... Panasonic told me that they would not extend the warrany but if I sent them the service evaluation and proof of purchase ($150 out of my pocket), they would review the case and possibly make some sort of financial accomodation. I asked if that financial accomodation would be one extra year of warranty especially since there have been so many similar experiences with their TVs. Nope. Now I don't know what to do.

  53. I have a TH - 50PZ85U. As most of you I also have the 10 blink red light. My TV is 3 years old and up until this point I thought it was one of the best made on the market at the time I bought it. Very disappointed with Panasonic. I expected much better from them. Will never buy another Panasonic product...

TV repair guy said it is the power supply and should be able to be fixed for $300. We will see what happens. Expected more than 3 years from a TV bosting 60,000+ hrs.

  54. Hello From GB...Following from my previous posts...............

    Sunday 31st July 2011.

Just had a telephone call from Currys to say that they have replaced the Power Supply on my Panasonic Plasma TX-42G10B.

The lady said that they also have to replace the BUSSERS whatever they are, but they are waiting for that part to come in.

(Does anyone know what a Busser is? She said that she thinks it is something that controls the TV picture)

She said that hopefully the set should be ready for bringing back next week.

I asked her if there would be a charge and she said "There is nothing showing yet to be charged and there usualy is by now".

I said to her (though I know she will have nothing to do with any charge) that I didn't expect to be charged.

So that is it until later in the week I guess.

Very nice of Currys to telephone me with that information though....so so far so good

  55. I purchased a 42" viera plasma in june 2009, first one I got had a powerup/shutdown fault, after 2 weeks i got a replacement which worked fine until june 2011 (2 years almost to the day), tv shut down 10 blinks.

Extended warranty paid out for a Viera TXP50 g20 which came on thursday, friday night popping noise followed by 7 blinks on the brand new set, i've had it with this, 3 tv's later and over £1000 paid out and I STILL dont have a working television!

  57. I just got home and tried to turn on my 3 year, 8 month old TH42PZ77 and encountered the seven blinking red lights! *&*^$%##@!!!!

Thank goodness for the internet, where I can simply stick my head out the digital window and yell out, 'Whose got the same problem?' I'm appreciative for sites like this, where I can gain a week's worth of education and experience in twenty minutes. It's small consolation to the fact that I apparently am hooped. No warranty, and repairs will be unfeasible.

The biting irony here is that I did a pre-shop consumer-report-type gauge of what was good out there, and the Vieras came out on top of everybody. So this is what I preached to my friends.

Do you see the parallel here with the auto industry? if there are too many defects out there, cover it up (or it will cost us a bundle)To be fair - either they tested every one and found them to be acceptable = dubious / deceptive. Or, they didn't = careless and inept.

Either way, (thanks to the information from all the victims who have gone before me) it's going to cost me big to buy another TV.

And it WON'T be a Panasonic. Bastards.

  58. Yet another loyal Panasonic customer throws in the towel. I'm luckier than most on this site, as I purchased my TH-50PZ85U Viera in early 2008. It worked for three years, until suddenly the 10 blinks of death showed up. Interestingly, the television is fine if you don't try to power it up immediately after turning it off or if it goes into sleep mode. If you unplug it for a good hour or more it will work. This leads me to believe that a capacitor is the culprit, since there appears to be a "cool off" time. What's exceptionally peculiar, however, is I can leave the damn television on all night and day and have no problems. It's ONLY when I turn it off!

Yeah. This sucks, and I, like others, will never buy a Panasonic product again.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My TH-42PZ80U has joined the ranks. Flashing 2 times, alternate power sources, unplug, wait several hrs. replug...same exact problem. Yesterday I had a telephone call from 'Curry's Customer Resolution Team' to be told that my TV (Purchased 4th September 2011)is fixed and will be delivered back to me this Thursday 11th August 2011 ..........AND.............That there is NO CHARGE ................AND...........
I would be refunded the £60 I have already paid in the near future.

The Currys chap I spoke to said that there had been a Power Supply Fault and that the Ysus Board and Power Supply Board had been replaced.

They had established that the fault had not been caused through negligence by me the Customer and that the problem was deemed a Manufacturing Defect and therefore not chargable.

So then, for anyone who has a problem with a TV or indeed most other, particularly electrical products after the One Year Warranty runs out I would say to try a few things.

    1. Do a Google about that particular fault to try and establish if there are lots of complaints which in turn can make it an Inherent Problem which will be covered by the 1979 Sale Of Goods act.

    2. Let the company you purchased the item from know what information you have and very nicely request that you not be charged for the repair of that particular fault.

    3. Be prepared to inform the Company that you will take the issue to the the Small Claims Court if neccessary in the event of them being 'awkward'.

    4. Do just that if you have to.

No doubt others can add good advice as well, perhaps even contradicting mine!

(insert every cuss word here) Found this trouble chart online..purchased a new power board...replaced old one. Now its gone from blinking 5 times to 7 times and now down to 1.
    Unacceptable for an $1100 product.

  66. For everyone with the classic "7 blinks of death" problem:

PANASONIC WILL FIX THIS AT NO COST TO YOU EVEN IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY!!!!!

They have apparently issued a warranty extension covering SC board replacement (7 blink failure) for all plasmas.

    Source:http://hubpages.com/hub/Panasonic-Plasma-7-blink-failure

This may be posted here already, but I have yet to see it mentioned anywhere else.
One call to Panasonic resulted in getting the SC board replaced on my 2007 42" by a 3rd party technician within a week at no cost (would've been ~$500 with labor). As pissed as I was when it first happened, I now give Panasonic major props for such a quick fix.

  68. My Repair Update from Wales (U.K.)

    12th August 2011.

Ah! well everyone.....my repaired Panasonic TX-P42G10B was returned yesterday, my £60 Assesment fee is now back in my bank account and so the 'Panasonic Red Light Of Death' can now be called 'The Green Light Of Life'

But Ive just got to tell you this.....When the Currys guys came yesterday morning they first telephoned me and said

"Hi, it's KNOW HOW here, and we will be with you in five minutes" .........................Lovely.

So they came in with the set and the conversation went like this........................

Know How "Would you like us to set it up for you"?

    Me "Yes Please"

Know How "Have you got a screwdriver"? (To put the telly back on the stand).

Me "Yes" So I went and got a Pozi Screwdriver.

Know How "Would you like us to tune it back in for you as the channel area will now be different"?

(O.K. I know how to do it, but I thought 'That would be nice')

    Me "Yes Please".

Know how "It isn't tuning in, you havent got a signal"

Me "Oh! O.K. just leave it then, perhaps the satellite connector has come loose, we have had some quite high winds".

So after they left I looked into the Tuning Menu where I noticed that the 'Know How' guy had the tuning mode set on DVB (Digital Satellite Broadcasts run off a normal Analogue Aerial of course).

The set has 3 settings Freesat, DVD and Analogue.

So I moved the scan up to Freesat.....and away it went with the tune and all channels where present and correct!

Now then....Currys call this offshoot of the business 'KNOW HOW' or 'The Teck Guys'

Perhaps Currys should start with providing all it's 'Know How' team with a Screwdriver and teach them how to tune in a Freesat TV ?

The evidence for Freesat is at my property with 2 Sky type Satellite dishes....plus a 1 mtr Motorised dish which they had to walk past when bringing back the TV.

But hey.....i'me just having a bit of fun here....after all Currys did come good for me so I will be posting off two nice letters. One to Currys thanking them for everything, and to the panasonic Chap (I cannot think of his name right now) for his input also.

    Best Regards

  69. Ah, the red light blinking issue... I didn't know it was so widespread. I live in Brazil and bought a Panasonic 50" plasma on January 2009. Two months later it failed. A defective power unit. Technical/customer support was almost impossible to find, much less talk to. One month later it was repaired. In less than one month, another failure. This time it was the plasma screen! One third of it went black, permanently... Not in the middle, but in one of its extremities. Another month without the tv. Then Panasonic called me and asked if I wanted my money back or a new tv set. I chose a new one and since then it has been working perfectly. It arrived around June or July 2009 and since then it has been working just fine. So I guess we were all very, very unlucky. Nevertheless, Panasonic should have admitted this problem!

  72. So I went round and round for 6 weeks after the SECOND time I had teh exact same problem with my TV (bad A-board). Their offer went from nothing to convering $250 of a $600 repair (had to call multiple times and take the nastiness up a notch each time and finally get to a manager). The last offer was still not the best I thought they could do, so I went to twitter. @PanasonicDirect is the brand's account. Once I did that (took some additional time and trying) I got a 'final' offer that they would replace the part for free and cover $100 of the service company's charge to replace it.

Honestly, I'm still not satisfied because I know this is due to a defective design and will happen again. The repair company's warranty is only 30 days, so after that I am SOL if it happens again. So my advice? If we all start tweeting to @PanasonicDirect about these issues we will get more traction than on this website. If they don't respond the first time, keep on tweeting them. They want to protect their brand, and if enough people yell loud enough we can move this goliath to take some action and recall the defective parts.

  74. I've got a Panasonic TC-P42S2 Plasma that stopped working and now just blinks 11 times, which seems to indicate that there is a problem with the a fan or A board. This actually isn't the first time it's happened. 79. My TC-P42G10 just died tonight (5 blinks) exactly two years after purchase. A loud pop, and now it won't power on. Five (5) blinks indication. Did a lot of reading around tonight to find that it will cost around $500 to repair. Of course, it's out of warranty. Unacceptable. I'm going to lean on Panasonic to cover the costs, and if that fails, I could fall back on my credit card's extended warranty which I made it under on the very last day! But I don't feel that would be right; it's Panasonic's problem and a systemic one at that.

I will not be buying from Panasonic again. Especially their plasma TVs.

My TH-46PZ80U Panasonic, purchased in late 2008 started flashing its power ON light about 2 months ago. I must be one of the lucky ones because when pulling the power cord from the wall and letting "Cool Off" about 5 minutes, I can watch TV again. In the light of what I read on this site, I am tempted to open the back cover of the TV and install a quiet computer fan to try and keep the power board cold enough so it does not act up. I'll let you know how I make out.

  85. Ultra frustrated!
Bought 46" Plasma for $1000 a year and a half ago. And today i found out that the red blinking light means my t.v. is no longer working. Ironically enough, today i just bought my second Panasonic 32" plasma for my sons 13th birthday because of how happy i was with the t.v.,but now its going straight back to the store. And just in time to add more stress to his birthday there's 12 teenagers coming for a party and sleepover when I've already spent the budget for the birthday. So another expense is the last thing i can afford, I thought i had a horrible experience with Toshiba and they crap they produce, but after receiving poor customer care and four trips later to the repair man they finally replaced and upgraded the t.v. they couldn't get to work. So i left promising never to give my business to them again but was grateful they came through. After all I've read i feel i'm not gonna get any resolve out of this. So another brand that will be banned from my house

  91. 2008 50" Panasonic Plasma model TH-50PZ80U

During spring of 2011 the TV began exhibiting the 10-blink error condition. For months I could correct the problem by unplugging all HDMI inputs, unplugging power, waiting 30 seconds, plugging in power, turn on, then plug in HDMI cables. During spring/summer of 2011 this occurred maybe 4-6 times. September 2nd this recovery process failed to bring the TV back to life. Currently sitting unplugged for an extended period (several hours) to see if I can resuscitate it again.

The reports I read on the net of others suffering similar problems doesn't give me much hope and I expect I'll be buying a new TV (non-Panasonic) in the near future.

  92. I have a Pansonic Plasma TH50PZ80A - purchased April 2009.

over that time the plasma, maybe 7 times - the plasma would not start - but would eventually after powering off for a period - now it will not turn on - 10 blinks pause - 10 blinks.

Rang Panasonic - they advised no known issues with the machine (defensively - i thought)- mentioned the many complaints on the net, as well as the possibility of a class action in the US - still no known issues @ Panasonic.

They advised - call a technician - $110 to look at it - and expect to pay at least $500 to repair.

I hope they get their just deserts - it is however a good machine when it is working - all expletives have been removed on the advice of my wife.

It just happened again tonight and not working. I don't like what I'm reading here. Looks like we may need a new TV. Too bad because this one was purchased Feb. 2009 and has been great until just recently. Would be on board with a "critical mass" legal action of some kind against Panasonic.

  95. Add me to this long list of failed Panasonic plasma owners. After extensive research on CNET/AVS etc. I purchased a TH-46PZ80U for $1400 beginning of 2009. Failed last week with 2 blinks, won't turn on. 2 year extended warranty has expired. Called Panasonic and waited about 10 minutes to speak to a rep. They told me that I was on the hook for a tech to come and diagnose the problem. If I faxed the diagnosis/estimate they would see what they could do with helping me out with the repair. Called the local tech and he wants $170 to come out and run analysis; said that same $170 would also cover the return trip and part replacement. If its the main board, it would be @ $275 for the part. Not sure what to do. Fixing a tv, to have something else go wrong in the near term (as others have written happened to them) seems like throwing good money at bad. My co-worker and her father also purchased Panasonic plasma sets. The co-workers set was broken right out of the box. Her father now has a colored line across his display. Makes me question the 2-3% failure rate. Most likely won't purchase another Panasonic.

I purchased a Panasonic 65” 3D TC-P65GT30 and it worked fine for 2 days and then failed with 7 blinking lights. I called Best Buy and they offered to send a tech out to repair it but I ask for a replacement and they agreed. The new set is scheduled for delivery in 9 days but since reading these issues I’m thinking of changing to a different brand. One of the reasons I purchased a Panasonic is because I had 2 Samsungs to fail and the Panasonic TC-P4251 I purchased 2 years ago has worked well.

  101. Hi! I bought a TH-50PZ85X in February 2009 and loved it. By the end of October 2011, it made a loud "pop" sound, red light blinked and got a black stripe across the screen. Thank God it had a 3-year warranty.

Two weeks later, I received a new TC-P50S30X and another 3-year warranty. Not a single penny was spend. Thanks to the great Panasonic service here in Mexico City :)

  102. I bought my 50 inches plasma (TC-p50s2) 14 months ago. I went to the bathroom and then i came back to my room the tv was closed and had got the 7 blinks of death plus the glass panel is cracked. I paid that 1917,75$. Now after googling several hours i just found that forum. No more Panasonic.

  103. Add another dead Panasonic Plasma TV to the list. 2007 model TH50PZ700U with 7 blinking lights.
Called Panasonic and they declined to pay anything towards parts or labor to repair this unit.
Local Panasonic authorized repair shop quoted $600 (or more) to repair.
Hey Panasonic...kiss my ass. I'll NEVER buy ANYTHING from you bastards again.

All of a sudden 2 days ago I get the 10 blinks red light. Powered off, vacuumed all the vents, etc and it cam back on when powered up. Today, my kid calls me after work after getting home from school, and TV is blinking again. 10 flashes. This time it will not come on. Frustrated..

Bought my 50" Plasma Panasonic model # TC-P50S1 in Aug. of 2009, been working fine and all of a sudden while watching it, it turns off and flashes 10 times, Power Supply Board, call the manufacturer and they were no F***ing help, just aksed alot of questions and gave me a # to a local Panasonic Auth. repair shop. Already spent $60 to watch the UFC fight in HD, and no HD to watch it on!!! After reading this forum and seeing this has been an ongoing issue I will call back and raise some hell as to why if they had this issue in 2007 and 2008, why didnt they pay for better Power Boards....... to be continued......... I'm going to call tech support tomorrow because as you all say, this has been going on for the past several years with panasonic.

  113. I read some of these comments, and others on other boards. This is a KNOWN problem, and it should be brought up to the public, before they buy the tv. I would say, and most likely will, go to my electronics store, and hand out fliers, saying that this TV is prone to die on you after a few Days. Mine is only 3 weeks old.
I now have to take it back to my handler, and be with out a TV for GOD only knows how many weeks.

  114. TH-50PX80u - 10 Blinking Red Lights.
Thought I would share this. Purchased in 2008. Recently, I purchased a new receiver. It seems that the receiver is sending too high of an output through the HDMI to the HDMI in of the Panasonic. My TV turns on fine when the receiver is off. If the receiver is on then I turn on the TV, 10 blinking red lights. The tech at Crutchfield told me to purchase a(n) HDMI repeater/equalizer. Purchased at www.monoprice.com search product ID 2849. $12.75 plus s/h. Plugged it in and my TV works like a charm! Since it is in-line, it requires 2 HDMI cables. Most of these blogs are likely a board failure, but this did fix my issue.

  119. I have a Panasonic TH-50PX60U that I purchased from Costco in 2007. It broke down in the first month and was repaired. TV worked fine until yesterday. The picture shut off while watching yesterday and now I get 5 blinking lights with no picture. Called Panasonic - they told me to try plugging it into a different outlet - which didn't fix the problem. They referred me to a repair service to have it repaired at my expense. Not sure I will do that since to have someone come out to the house plus parts will be several hundred dollars minimum. Best to put it towards an extended warranty on a new TV - not Panasonic.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Had my 50" TH50PE700U out of the box for 9 months before I got the 7 blinking red lights of death. Unfortunately, no warranty. I bought it for my new house and had to sit in the box for 3 months before I could even use it. I loved the picture and have the matching blue ray player by them as well. However, after all I've read and heard, I will probably never purchase panasonic brand again. I would rather buy from a company that values it's customers satisfaction beyond it's measly 12 month coverage. So sad.

Biggest waste of money, from now on I am never going to buy anything Panasonic again, I am in the process of returning my $500 camera and I think we should trust name brands like Sony from now on. Great job Panasonic, loosing more and more customers each day.

Panasonic TH-42PX75U TV stop working and now all it does is blink 7 times of the power light,

    ReplyDelete
  137. Panasonic TH-46PZ800U (bought in '08). About a month ago we started getting the 2-blinks and would not power up. We used the "work-around" of unplugging the TV, letting it sit for about 30 min, and then plugging it back in... This worked for about 3-4 weeks but now it doesn't power up at all. We get two blinks when you first try to turn it on, then if you hold the pwr button it changes to 10 blinks. I found the Panasonic Troubleshooting Guide and the Service manual online and believe the issue is either the D-board or the P-board. (note: on the 800u there is a P(Main) board and a P(AC) board which is a sub-board to P(Main)). Like others on here, I'm assuming it's the P(Main) board as that appears to be a common issue so I ordered one from Vizparts.com -- Part# ETX2MM704MGN for $179+SH(note the panasonic pwr supply board was also used in a few Vizio Plasmas of the same vintage). Fingers crossed that replacing this board will breath life into this TV. I'll repost with results. Like others, I'm pretty disappointed that a $2000 tv didn't make it past 4yrs!

  138. Well we have fallen into the 5 blink issue with our 6 year old Plasma Vieja that is out of warranty as of 2010. Thanks to the fellow who listed that what "5 blinks" indicate (5VSOSDBoard). I have made my decision not to have a repairman out and just frustrate myself like these others (not a slam just saving myself) and buying a new tv. Why go through this. But buyers beware of the lenght these tv work. Hey my old Phillips that I gave to my nephews (big tube tv) is still working after 12 years! Dont buy the warranty these days.

  140. 10 Blinking light is the Power supply ,there is a guy on Ebay that sells them refurbished with a year warranty. I just fixed mine (EASY FIX)
It took 12 minutes to get all the screws off the back, then about 8 more screws to remove the power supply but that's "after I let the TV sit for a day" to let any residual power dissipate, then I purchassed the PS from the guy on Ebay, sent him the old one(core) and 3 days later got the new one , all for under $150.00 , works like a charm :)
I did have a TV repair guy come and tell me it needed a power supply even though I kinda figured it. I just wanted to be 100% before I got the one off Ebay.
TV repair man charged me $70.00 to tell me that.
Oh I have a 50 inch Plasma got it in 2008

  148. Bought a Panasonic TH50PZ85U for $2500.00 back in March of 2008. Yesterday it would not turn on and I got the dreaded 10 blinks of death. I did a search on the internet and found I was not the only one having this problem. I did as others have done and unplugged the TV for hours on end to have it work briefly. Today it won't come on at all. I called Panasonic and politely let them know my dissatisfaction. Here is what transpired with the customer support rep. : He gave me the location of a service repair facility. I am to have a technician come out and have them do an evaluation, which I have to pay for. Then I'm supposed to call back Panasonic with the evaluation, estimate for repairs, my original purchase reciept, and talk to a manager nicely and hope they pick up part (not all!) of the repair cost.

From what I have read from these posts, it will cost me about $100 or more for the evaluation, then over $500 for the repairs. I'm better off buying another TV. Besides I would pay to repair a TV with parts that would fail within a year or two. No thank you. I will cut my losses now.

I thought highly of Panasonic products. I even purchased their flag ship consumer camcorder TM700 and a ZS7 digital camera. Very disappointed. Lost confidence in this company and will not purchase anything from them ever again. That's a promise.

Yesterday evening (Nov 15, 2011) my Panasonic TH-50PZ85U model began flashing 6 times when I tried turning it on. Unplugged it, plugged it back in and it worked the rest of the night. Just got home today and now it's flashing 10 times. After spending some time with google, plugging it in and out for various periods of time, I only get the flashing light! The sticker on the back says I purchased it in February 2008. I was hoping to get at least 6, 7 years out of this set. My only saving grace is at least there are deep discounts now, considering I paid over $2000 for my set new. I definitely will not be purchasing another Panasonic!

  167. Following up on my Sept. 7th post above. I got the tv evaluated by a local repair store and they said that I have a faulty power board (big surprise). I might also have a bad D board, but they won't know until the power baord is replaced. If it's both the repair is $540 total. @ $365 if just the power board. Faxed their estimate and the original receipt to Panasonic. Panasonic said that I need to take it to an authorized place an hour away. They want me to pay for another evaluation. I tried to work with them but they wouldn't budge. They also said that if they were to help me out, it would just be through them writing a letter to the authorized repair place to give me a discount on the repair. I am not spending one more cent on anything Panasonic. I have contacted my local news station, will be posting negative feedback on Amazon, Best Buy, ect, will be posting a Facebook message warning my friends to stay away from Panasonic this and every holiday season. I suggest everyone do the same.

  169. The night before Thanksgiving and our TV dies suddenly with the infamous red blinking light. Just over a year old. Unfreakingbelievable.

  170. I ended up turning this website and my problem into my attorney general and the BBB. BBB said that i would have to go to a consumer report hotline and report this. I did get a response from my local news station troubleshooting dept and think they may fit me in. will keep all updated. Hopefully sticking a news station up their ass will open some executives eyes...we'll see

  171. IK bought a 50" 85U brand new when it came out in 09 i think. Ive been getting the 10 blink code for months now. I unplug it and plug it back in and it works most of the time, sometimes takes a few tries. Ive switched HDMI inputs around and that helped for a while and then it started doing it again. now evereyday i have to unplug it and plug it back in everytime I want to watch it. So much for a great product for $2400. hopefully we can get a class action lawsuit against them.

  172. Sign us up for a class action suit!

We purchased a Viera TC-P54Z1 Plazma TV in September of 2010 at Best Buy. Made our last payment on it in September of 2011. Come October we are sitting enjoying a movie on our awesome TV and it cut off for no reason. We managed to get it to turn on after hitting the power button on and off several times. This process went on for about a week when it finally shut off for good.

Fortunately we purchased the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection "Premier" coverage. We called for service and reported the "7 red blinks of death" (love that). The part was ordered and a service call was scheduled for the following week. When the Tech showed up he took the TV apart and made about a dozen phone calls. He came back again another week later to verify the diagnostics. Another two weeks later we learn that Panasonic shipped the wrong part and the Tech again ordered the correct part. Meantime, Geek Squad provided a loaner TV. Another two weeks later the part still hasn't been shipped.

We have now opt for a new comparable TV under the warranty. Of course, a comparable TV now costs more that what we paid for the original, so we are only getting credit for the amount of our original purchase. Think we are going for a Samsung this time.

Highly recommend that anyone buying Panasonic should also purchase the max extended warranty available. Better yet, not to by a Panasonic at all! Don't be taken in by all the rave reviews.

  173. Update: Tech came out a week after part was shipped- and still nothing - they shipped a defective board... WTF??? so tech had to order another and will be back a week later (Wed) to try again - I am gonna try to get a new different TV.. Samsung?

  175. Currently on hold for 48 minutes. These people are ridiculous. How do we go about a class action law suit???

    ReplyDelete
  176. Some good news: Panasonic finally agreed to pay for 100% of the repair. But it took over 50 minutes on the phone, getting bumped from one person to another before they agreed. My advise: hold firm with them and insist that they pay for this. They know that they are wrong. But it is a sorry comment on this company that it takes the consumer so much effort and time before they can obtain any satisfaction. I will never buy another Panasonic product after this ordeal.

  177. TH42px75u manufactured Nov 2007. Lasted til November 2011. 6 Blinks the first time and then 7 every time after that.

  179. I like to think of myself as an excellent researcher when it comes to buying products for our household, especially expensive ones. If Panasonic doesn't find a way to address and fix this problem or compensate the people who they duped out of a lot of money, I will no longer buy Panasonic anymore. With so many choices out there, reputation and customer service are important if they want to remain in business.

  180. 3 years and 1month after purchasing a TH46PZ85U panasonic the set will not turn on with the 10 blinks. Called panasonic only to be told there was nothing they could do and gave me a name of an authorized repair person. I will never purchase Panasonic again. I should of stuck with my instincts and gone with reliable SONY.

  181. Dear Panasonic,

Please ship me a replacement signal conditioning board for model# TC-54PS14. My TV is about 2 yrs old, or about 17,000 hrs through what should be 60,000 operating hours (if I were an insomniac). I was watching TV last night, when I heard a very loud pop and the screen went blank. The red light on the front blinks 7 times and the TV will not turn back on. With minimal effort, I was able to find the website http://panasonicplasmafail.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome-to-panasonic-plasma-fail.html?commentPage=4, which is a repository for customer complaints. Over half of the complaints here are exactly the same problem I'm experiencing.

I know what you're thinking: This email address (npcparts@us.panasonic.com) is for ordering accessories, like remote controls and dust-towels. Well, it seems like one of your engineers has put into production a chip-set that ACTS like an accessory. In the two years I've owned the TV, lost remotes: 0, blown boards: 1.

Please contact me at the reply email address. I have built computers from scratch, so I think I can handle the installation. If you insist on handling the problem through an authorized dealer, I insist you pay for it.

    Thank you,

  182. My TV is just a week past 3 years old and it wouldn't turn on. The red light was blinking twice so I tried another poster's suggestion to switch the HDMI cable to the other port. It worked perfectly!

  184. Add one more to the list.Bought a model
TC-P50X1 in early 2009 from Sears.
Light started blinking middle of Nov. 2011
was able to get it fired-up for about two weeks by holding the power button down every time the light blinked & listening for the relay to click. This took several minutes of trying, the remote did not work at all. It"s dead now. Buy new or get fixed ? $$$

  185. I bought a Panasonic TH-50PZ80U in May 2008 and now it has conked out. When I turn it on, he red light blinks 10 times, but it does not turn on. Has anybody had any luck in fixing this issue? Thanks

  186. My tv just started the blinking. Randomly the screen won't turn on and the power light blinks. If I hold in the power button for about twenty seconds, the tv turns on and works. Problems has been hapening randomly over the last two weeks

  188. My 3 year old Panasonic TH-50PZ800U with very low hours died the other day. 10 blinks of death. Customer support was not helpful other than to suggest I call an authorized repair shop. They wanted $450 for starters, so I ordered a power supply board and installed it, but did not fix the problem. AAARRRRRGGGG!

  189. My TH-46PZ850U has now died for the 2nd time. Already forced Panasonic to cover the replacement of the main power board when it died at 1.5 years. Now at 30 months old, I have the 2 blinks of death and likely another blown power board. Called Panasonic and the "executive management team" told me to pound sand since I already took advantage of their "good will" once before. Panasonic is now dead to me and my family. F$%K PANASONIC!!!!

.....meanwhile, my trusty 35" Mitsubishi CRT TV, circa 1993, lives a steady and reliable life in my garage and I admire it more now than ever. It was $1200 in 1993, and has never missed a beat...

  190. Problem with Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42 in. Plasma Television

my panasonic plasma TH-42700U it turned off while i was watching the tv, later i thought it might have a ciruit breaker problem, i tried to plug it to a different location, but the tv doent turn

on. the power light keeps on blinking.the light blinks 10 times. I have a Panasonic TH-42PZ77U manufactured Oct 07 . The tv wont come on and is flashing the red light 10 times.

  191. I also bought a plasma 50" Panosonic, Which is now giving me the red 10 blink of death just after the warranty gave out but only to discover I bought a extension warranty for additional 2 yrs....and thank goodness I did after all these comments.....

  192. had the 7 blinking light syndrome. unplugged it for bout 20minutes & plugged it back. Got Lucky! its back.... 4 now anyway. Hope this might help somebody.

  193. I purchased my Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U on December 2008. I got the red blinking light (10 times) about 2 weeks ago. I managed to work it do that if I unplugged it for about 30 minutes and plugged it back in, it would work. However, once I turned it off I had to do the whole thing over again. Now it's just won't turn on completely. I'm also fustrated with what seems to be an ongoing problem with this TV and no remedy except to spend half the amount of money the TV costs to fix it and also wait weeks, up to months, for service centers to actually get the part. It'd be nice if Panasonic cared about their reputation a little more.

  194. Well it has been 4 weeks since my first post on here on Nov 12 so I thought to toss an updated. It took a week for a tech to come look at it with a new board in hand, he rplaced that board tv still did not work he fiddled a bit said needed another board, orderd that day when he was on the phone with panasonic another week goes by and comes with another board well they shipped the wrong board, so another week goes by get the right board in for it to be bad. So that day service tech took tv to work at it in the shop while they waited for new parts to come n 3 days go by and they bring back my tv still broken and say panasonic will let me know when i can pick up my replacement thru the dealer. I say ok a week goes by and still nothing call panasonic well they didn't do the paperwork for a replacement which i found out after another week went by and i called to find out about my tv. Still waiting till this day the dealer stil lhas no info in this electronic age it shouldnt take 3 weeks for a email to get to the dealer. I am just livid about the situation I will never by another panasonic anything nor recommend it to anyone. So i think it is time to get a lawyer.

  196. The TH-50PZ800U I purchased November 2008 is blinking 2 times...........estimated at $300-400 to fix! I have to say my new tv will not be a Panasonic! I could have purchased 3 LG's for the price of this lemon!

  197. What a piece of crap television. I had the blinking light within 5 months of my purchase and was of course asked if I had a surge protector (yes, I have the one that Best Buy recommended). Panasonic then gave me the 'bad parts happen' line, and now several months later,,,,, the blinking light of death has returned!!!!!!!! I will never own Panasonic anything again.

  199. Well, I woke up this morning to my TV giving me a blinking red LED and no picture.

First thing I did was to power cycle it - no luck.

Broke out the manual. Nothing in it about a blinking red LED.

Googled my model number and, badabing, found this website. I'm grateful for having found it as at least now I know what is going on.

I've disconnected power now and will leave it for an hour, as some have suggested here.

Well, at least it is Christmas and there should be good sales on TVs.
