Follow-up from creator of Panasonic Plasma Fail

{This message was posted on 9/7/09}

I created this blog approximately two months ago after my Panasonic Plasma TV crashed and started displaying the blinking lights of death. Just wanted to post a follow-up message for people who are encountering this problem.

After several calls to Panasonic, I reached a technical support worker who recognized the "seven blinking lights" problem. Even though my television was no longer on warranty, they agreed to send out a repair person to look at the problem. According to the Panasonic representative, the problem might have been caused by a defective part. In this case, the repair person would fix the television set free of charge. However, if the blinking lights problem were caused by any other sort of failure, the repair person would give me an estimate on the cost of repairs.

When the repair person arrived, they confirmed that the problem was caused by a failed circuit board that was known to be defective. They swapped in a new board, and fixed the television set free of charge.

For everyone else who is encountering this problem, I have a few suggestions:

(1) Please be sure to post your experiences on this blog. Even though my television set was fixed, it is clear that many other people are suffering from this problem. Eventually, if there is a class action suit, this blog can be a useful tool for reaching out to Panasonic consumers who have encountered the seven blinking lights of death.

(2) Even if your television set's warranty has expired, you should call Panasonic and calmly insist that they fix the problem free of charge. Be persistent, and be sure to mention the many Internet postings from other disgruntled customers.

Although my initial encounters with Panasonic technical support were frustrating, I have to admit that they did fix the problem. It took almost two months, and we had to buy a new replacement set in the meantime, but Panasonic ultimately took responsibility for fixing the problem.

For those of you who are still struggling with a broken television set, best of luck in your efforts to seek a solution from Panasonic. If you manage to get Panasonic to fix your set -- or if they fail to step up and solve the problem -- please post the results of your efforts here.

Good luck everyone!

  1. My TH- 50PZ80U was 3 mo out of warranty and experienced a 2 blinking red light problem. After numerous calls to Panasonic and a quote of $650.00 for repair I began to get all my ducks in a row when I received a call from Panasonic that they would cover the charge as a "one time courtesy". There is however only a 30 day parts and labor guarantee on this repair. I have had my set back for 1 1/2 weeks and so far no problems. I was only out the evaluation fee of $40 dollars. I'm still nervous everytime I turn it on. I will continue to update.

  2. After almost ten months of flawless operation our TH-50PZ800U developed the blinking red light/no picture syndrome. Have unplugged it from the wall and hope by morning it will work as tomorrow is Saturday and my husband spends it watching college football. In our case the TV worked all day. My husband turned it off when he went to bed and when I tried turning it on the darned red light was blinking. Crossing my fingers - we are still under warranty if this doesn't work.

  3. I have a Panasonic TH42PZ77U with the dreaded 7 blinking lights and is barely out of warranty. The PCB SC board is bad and the estimate to repair is $888.95. I have contacted Panasonic and I'm waiting for a reply. I'll post the outcome.

  4. After less than 10 hours of use on my new 50" there is a huge black vertical bar through my screen. I see now these are a problem. Wish I had read this before I bought it last week. Waiting to see if Panasonic will replace the defective tv

  5. Followup to October 2 blog entry. It seems that Panasonic has a really stupid policy of ignoring the "blinking light". I called, got the nice lady on the telephone, made an appointment and finally were able to have the tech come out today (Thursday). Dumb me, I thought since I had told the nice lady that the light was blinking twice to indicate a dead SOS D Board (whatever that is) the tech would have such an animal ready to install to fix the set. NOT! Seems even though the TV set has the intelligence to say what's wrong with it the folks at Panasonic ignore that and send the tech to "diagnose" the problem anyway. The tech spent nearly an hour poking and prodding and came up with the same diagnosis the TV set already provided...and I even told him. The tech said he would have to order the part..another week without the set working. If that does not fix the problem we will be asking for a replacement. We had bought the Panasonic partly out of brand loyalty but that is being severely tested.

  6. My TH37PX50U is 3.5 years old and about 6 months ago started giving me the blinking death light issue. Lately I've had to pull the plug and wait overnight to get it back on. Did the email thing to Panasonic and although the say they'll email back within 2 to 3 days I've yet to hear from them. Thanks for this blog but my expectations are pretty low. $2400 3.5 years ago. Sure am glad that prices have dropped so much but I won't purchase a new panny that's for sure. (unless they step up to the plate quickly). Thanks Bob G

  7. Waiting. They came to pick up our 50" set almost two weeks ago...and left us with a 42" loaner. Seems the first board they replaced wasn't the problem so they had to take it into the shop to "do the job right". I called yesterday and was told that they had ordered two boards from Panasonic and only one had arrived as of then. That makes three defective boards. Hopefully the replacement parts will be better than the originals. The downer was that the guy at the repair shop said these sets only last 4 years. Since we got an extended warranty it looks like at the end of the line we will be buying a new set - figure by then everything will be different. Panasonic has a great picture and the screen is rated to last 100,000 hours. Too bad the components aren't strong enough to do so.

  8. Wow - after being very pleased with the quality of my th42pz77u for the year and a half or so, I came home to see the red blinking light, and now see that it is (apparently) a common problem, but not yet acknowledged by Panasonic. Bummer. And it sounds like getting good customer service might also be a challenge...

  9. I have you all beat. I received my Panasonic G-10 50 inch Plasma on October 19th. I have used it for less than 10 hours. This morning I went to turn it on and I got the 7 blinks of the red light syndrome and a dead TV. I called Panasonic who promptly schedule a repair tech for next week. I however called Best Buy where I go it and insisted that the TV be replaced. My new on will be here Tuesday and I am hoping seriously that the new one does not fail too.

  11. This is a follow up to a 9/23 blog entry. My TH-50PZ80u is still working without problems after Panasonic covered the 2 blinking light defect to a 3 mo out of warranty TV. I am however, still nervous everytime I turn it on. I am waiting to see if Panasonic is going to own up to this defect and recall or extend warranties.

  12. just got the seven blinking lights of death last week. the TH-42pz77u is less than two years old. called panasonic and "nice lady" said nothing she can do and defective units make up only 1% of stock. that's good for the 99%,but what the !#$% about us.due to bad panel the repair will cost $2247.00 I guess I'll be buying a new set,NOT A PANASONIC

  13. I have a TH-42-PX60U for 2 years and 3 months when the volume and menu stopped working. After I had them agree to pay for the parts to fix the set, I couldnt spend the usually 15 minutes (just to talk to a new customer rep) to find out what I needed to do to get repaired. I got so frustrated dealing with Panasonic that I am buying another brand!!!

  14. After 11 months my TH-42PX80U quit and developed 10 binking red lights. I have emailed Panasonic Support and will phone them tomorrow.
It has been less than a year and I do have the original reciept so I am hopeful that Panasonic will come through with complete cover of warranty without a problem.
    Will post the outcome shortly.

  17. Well I have the HT58PH, bought it in November o7, just over 2 years old, this TV is in the Tiki Lounge outside. I loved this TV, great picture and it was the right size for a large room. About 3 weeks ago, sat down to watch a football game and the TV would not turn on. Pushed the on off button sevral times and nothing. I thought the TV was done and started looking at a replacement. Three days later I pushed the on off button again and it worked just fine for the next three weeks. I could not figure it out and really didn't care as long as it worked. I thought that it may be the cold weather that caused the outage. Well this week it happend again, worked one day and not the next. Right now it will not turn back on. I guess it cost me about $100 bucks a month to have a good TV to watch. Go Chargers

  18. I bought Panasonic TV TH42PZ80U in April 2008. Started to get the 10 Blinking LEDs after about 12-13 months. Called PAN support told them they should have my reg card that was sent in - rep gave no response and insisted on receipt info. Told me I could get a service rep to look at it. I responded That I was NOT going to pay a repair man to look at TV when they already know what 10 blinking LEDs mean. Rep responded with, "That's your choice". NOWHERE IN THE WARRANTY LITERATURE DID I SEE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS RESPONSIBLE TO LAY OUT $$ FOR A REPAIR TECH BEFORE THE WARRANTY WOULD BE HONORED. Crock-of-Dung!!! I told him I would never buy another Panasonic product again! He answered again, "That's your choice" Like who cares? Right? Who gives a flying Whoot? Well I was pissed! Asked if they could "just" send me the part/board and he said, "We don't ship repair parts to customers only to an "Authorized repair center". I then asked for the parts department since I wasn't getting anywhere with this ding-dong. He transferred me and I was promptly disconnected! I called the main switchboard 3 times before I got the parts department. Rep acted stupid about the blinking LED problem asking me for a part reference # to pass on to research department. I then asked if I could order the service manual so I COULD get the REF #. Charge was $28.75 + shipping + Tax. Then was told it was backordered 2-3 weeks. WHAT A FREAKIN' JOKE!

Well, I'm in to a class action suit! I will be setting up an email address for all to get together and will post. We need to contact Attorney General on this!

Also, in the meantime, if anyone out there has had the repairs done and know the part numbers for repairs on specific models could you please post them.

    Thanks!

  20. I just received the 7 blinking lights on my 42" plasma and after reading about this on the internet have tried to unplug and replug the TV to no avail. I have posted a message for panasonic and since they obviously have sold defective products my stance is that they should pay for the problem. I will keep posting results.

  21. our th-50PZ80U is 1 year and 2 months old. we got the blinking light - and no power. but only 2 blinks then a pause. called panasonic and they suggested taking it out of the surge protector and plugging it into the wall socket directly. that seemed to work - and turned the tv back on. he said to see if it works this way (which seems weird to NOT have it on a surge protector) and if it happens again - it might be something more serious. in that case, we'd have to call a service technician to assess and fix it. if the serviceman deemed it worthy to send to panasonic they open a new case and you could be reimbursed.

  22. I bought the TH-42PZ77U in November 2007 and the day before the 2010 Superbowl, the screen went black. It initially was 7 blinks, and now its 10. Panasonic sent someone over to fix, and told me it would be under warranty if it is the 7 blink problem only. The 10 blink problem is a power supply problem, meaning they will have the replace the power supply board. The estimate to repair is over $600!

Clearly, this product was of the defective batch. Considering this is costing me so much money to fix, I feel Panasonic owes it to their customers to make this right.

  23. I bought A 50" G10 3 weeks ago from Panasonic Newport South Wales. I have twice in the last 3 days seen 1 steady red light, (TV wont start) then minutes later on its own accord jumps to multiple flashing green. I have no knowledge of what this means. Once the green light stops flashing the TV comes on but sound is only heard from the left TV channel. I have also put the TV to stand by and continued to hear audio from the TV speakers.

Looks like I'll be taking this set back this weekend.

  24. I bought a TH-50PZ800U in July 5 2009 and about six months later just in time for the christmas holidays the TV had no picture and the red light was flashing 10 times. They sent a new board with the repair man, he installed it only to find out the board was damaged. The next week he arrived with another board and it worked. Two months later I had the same problem. Now it's at the shop for more testing. I really have a lack of confidence in this TV after all the research time and money that i invested in making the decision to buy Panasonic the least they can do is add a 3 year extended warranty free of charge, will see.

  25. I am extremely anxious to see this blog. I bought my TH-42PZ77U in Feb. 08. As we purchased it for our basement and were doing renos, we actually didn't even set it up until April 09. Now, 2 years later, about a month a go a slight thin vertical line showed up, left to the centre of the screen, coming from the bottom reaching just under half way up. 3 weeks later we got the red lights of death but managed to get it back on after unplugging it for the night. Now we turn it on and the line is an inch wide and black. We are disgusted and frankly quite scared. We have always been faithful panasonic owners....all our TVS and surround sound systems and even microwaves are panasonic. The sick thing is, if we are out 1600 dollars, I am even more worried because we had also within the last year purchased a plasma for upstairs. This is the one we watch daily while the basement one is watched about 2 hours per week. If this upstairs goes as well I will loose my fricking mind!! I have emailed panasonic and received an email back promptly asking us questions and to send a picture. They of course tell us they may need to send out a service person which should be interesting considering that we live 4 hours away from a major city centre. I am completely disgusted to see that the problems we are having are not even remotely rare. We were planning on purchasing another panasonic TV and surround sound for another room so I guess our saving grace is that we are not waiting for another major purchase to die.

It will indeed be interesting to see what panasonic will do for me. Damn, I certainly wish I had ran across this blog instead of Consumer Reports when I was researching my purchase. I will be keeping an eye on this blog.

    2 months later
Here's my results: I used Best Buy's Geek Squad to perform the repair.
Diagnostic visit $150 (all the tech guy did is come to my house at look at the screen - no tools, nothing. Just verified the issue that I reported)

Repair attempt #1 $140 for an hour of labor. Panasonic required the tech to first try to replace 2 'boards'. It did not work.

Repair attempt #2 $35 in labor replaced the PANEL which solved the issue.

The PANEL was warranted for 2 years so I had to pay labor only, total charge $325.

  27. I think that we all know now what a Crappy TV Panasonic makes. My 50" Plasma has the same dreaded blinks and Panasonic is ridiculously denying having problems. I will also contact the better business bureau here in Charleston, SC and see if they have any thoughts. I used to be an Engineer for an electronics manufacturer of machines and I have never heard of so many complaints in my life over the same condition. Does Panasonic have any Quality Engineers or metrics that actually test their products before release or are all of us just the Alpha site for crappy workmanship?

I'm switching back to SONY who cares about their customers!

  29. I just had a very pleasant experience getting our Panasonic TH42PZ77U fixed, all under warranty. Note: I had originally tried to query Panasonic via online chat - that was a complete failure.

I assumed the worst after reading all the online reports with this set once it failed us. However, I like the person who started this blog, called customer service and after stepping through some simple diagnostic. (Unplug/plug in, how man blinks?), they agreed to send a technician free of charge. [Note: You must be able to prove you are the original owner of the set with proof of purchase for them to do this.] They would not commit on the phone to covering the fix, but a reasonable hedge, considering there is the slight chance it could be something else. Anyway the technicians called us the next business day and said they were ordering the suspected part before they came out. Once in our home, they did the test that confirmed it was the bad scan board. (The board goes bad because of a software issue.) Because it was this issue, Panasonic covered the service call and the board under warranty even though the period had technically passed. Note: They will only cover this if your serial number is in a certain range, as they fixed the software that causes the issue once they identified the problem.

In all it took less than 4 business days to resolve - and it could have been 1-2 less except for our locality. All in all a very pleasant experience and nice to see Panasonic handle the issue. (Also kudos to the warranty techs who were friendly, informative and interested in resolving quickly.) I don't know if we benefited from those who had to suffer while the issue was being identified, but I would definitely recommend and continue to buy Panasonic as a result of this experience. It was far better than I could have ever hoped for.

  30. I have an 11th gen 50 inch Panny (2008=11th gen). 1st I saw a few times with 10 blinks, but thereafter (unplug, wait, re-plug) it went to 2 blinks.

After reading dozens of posts on various forums, etc. I finally found some info online re: codes (hint: google "11th generation plasma"). My TV will work if left unplugged for a few hours, then plugged back in, but won't turn on again if turned off when "hot". Concierge was no help (out of warranty). Oh- and the other poster that reported plugging into the wall "fixing" the problem? I am 99.99% sure it's a "temporary" fix at best. But - the hint was there - it's a POWER SUPPLY issue.

So - my (own) diag. with all the info I could find is it's likely the capacitors and/or one or more transistors of the power supply board are failing. The "D" board is the logic board that makes the diagnosis (and blinks the leds) - so - I suspect the "D" boards fail a LOT less often (e.g. if the D board diag is "ok", it's supposed to report "n" blinks [in my case, 2] - thus, the "D" board can be thought as WORKING - if the TV still functions otherwise).

That is, my TV still works - the 2 blinks are a result of when a 15V signal (from the power supply board) is NOT detected after startup (see the doc referred to by the "hint").

Anyway, I ordered (from discount-merchant.com) a replacement POWER SUPPLY board for my TV. It wasn't hard to find the right part # (you can even call them). I have it in front of me - $140 incl. tax+shipping. I figure this is less than a SINGLE trip by a tech to check my blink pattern - so worst case, if it doesn't fix my issue, I'll ebay it for $100 anyway - I can always have a tech come out since I'm out of luck (e.g. out of warranty).

So - finally - I will install it this coming weekend (it's just some connectors and a few screws). I'll post back to update.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Update to May 12th post - I installed the power supply board today - all is good so far! Can power off / on with no blinks after 2 solid hours of "on" operation.

Oh - for those that want to brave the fix - it took <= 2 hours for a slow guy like me - there are 30+ screws to remove to get the back cover off - I can advise to BE VERY CAREFUL removing the 6 screws that hold the P board - I dropped one and had a scare for a moment since it dropped down somewhere where I couldn't get to it (I was able to use gravity to recover it;-). The actual swap was cake (connectors are all labeled). It might be a bit more work on a 42 or 46 inch, since at least one or two fans I think would have to come off to get to it (on my 50 inch, the fans are not in the way). FYI- for the 46 and 50 inch 2008 PZ(85/80/800) models, the P board is part# NPX704MG-1.

One negative - after putting it all back together and watching close up, I noticed a stuck pixel that I had never seen before...(it may have been there recently, though definitely it was not there when new since I would have noticed it for sure). Anyway, it's basically invisible from more than 12 inches away (it doesn't flicker or anything), so no big deal.

  32. I have exactly the same problem as the poster above (Panasonic TH-50PZ85U purchased 15 months ago). I was told the 2 blink error code was a result of a bad D board. I ordered a new one and replaced it (which was a pain because it is housed behind the A board which has to come off). Put it all back together and nothing changed. Still getting the 2 blink error code. According to the tech helping me, a 2 blink error code for this Panny can only be 1 of three things. 1.Missing P15V; 2. A short of the P15V; or 3. A wrong diagnostic by the D board.
I've ruled out #3, so it has to be a short somewhere coming off the P board. I will try to replace the P board and see what happens and report back.

  33. It looks like we haven't had many comments here recently.
I have a 42" Plasma - 4 blinking lights last night. I can't find too many people who have seen this issue. If anyone out there has fixed the 4 light problem, please post if you have the solution.
The tv is about 20 months old. No problems to speak of until last night when it suddenly turned off and wouldn't turn back on. We unplugged & plugged back in and now have a working tv with a a 4 inch vertical line down the left side (left looking at it - right side of actual set).
    I'm hoping for the best...

  34. This is a blink code listing someone posted on highdefforum.com for a similar 50" Panasonic plasma model (TH-50PZ77U):

When an abnormality has occurred in the unit, the protection circuit operates and reset to the standby mode. At this time, the
defective block can be identified by the number of blinks of the Power LED on the front panel of the unit.

1 1 no pwer check plug and ac source, dg board, stv 5v
    sense time out
    2 d board
    3 d board
    4 p board
    5 d board
    6 su sd sc boards
    7 su sd sc boards
    8 ss board
    9 panel config
    10 digi board-
    11 pb board
    12 h board
    13 dg board

It would appear from this code scheme that your P board (that's the power board) is bad.If you want to take a stab at fixing it yourself, you can order the parts at either shopjimmy.com or discount-merchant.com for around $250.
I posted the message above yours and got the 2 blink code. I changed both the D board and the P board and the television is still powering off immediately when plugged in and giving me the 2 blink signal. So I give up. I'm dropping it off at a Panasonic authorized repair shop tomorrow. I can only imagine what it will cost to fix.
It broke 3 months out of warranty and I'm really pissed!

  35. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to post here. My 50" Panasonic Plasma started the blinking lights of death a few days ago. If I let it set long enough, unplug it, switch plug ins, remove HDMI cable and twirl around 3 times, it would then come back on ... until yesterday when it wouldn't turn on after being off for about 18 hours. Tried the ritual repeatedly to no avail, followed the manual instructions to clean the TV, called Panasonic (closed of course) and then started Googling to discover to count the lights. 2 blinking lights telling me that my D (SOS) Board has died, but I've heard "dead SOS D board", "D Board 15vdc short" & "15v SOS D Board" ... so something to that effect anyway.
Anyway, called today and of course my warranty expired 2.5 months ago; no issues with it until 14 months after purchase on a 12 month warranty - perfect! Anyway, I was quoted the lovely manual and asked to do the blinking light revival dance a few more times and then told to call a repair person in my area, keep all of the receipts, fax them in and they would see what they could do because it's not under warranty anymore.
I was also told I could try the store where I purchased it from and see if they're willing to do anything differently. When I asked the robotic manual quoting rep why they expected the store to back their product better then they did, he went back to quoting warranties and manuals...blah blah blah.
Long story longer, I fortunately purchased the 5 year extended warranty, which I didn't even remember doing through RC Willey and they are going to take care of it - love them! But still not a fan of Panasonic, at least not right now, and am waiting for the survey I opted in to doing as well as the call from Management that I insisted on. We'll see how those go and/or if they decide to learn the meaning of customer satisfaction & customer loyalty and do the RIGHT thing, not what they have put in effect to protect themselves from faulty product manufacturing. If this is the case, I will NEVER buy from Panasonic again and will gladly sign my name to any/all petitions against them as well as a class action law suit. They need to learn they can't treat their consumers this way without consequences.

  36. It's been a few months since our Panasonic died, and I finally have time to post about it. We bought the TH42PZ77U from Sears in December of 2007. We loved the TV--perfect picture, great color representation, awesome blacks. Well, a little over 2 years after we bought it (very beginning of 2010), it suddenly shut off and started the blinking red light of death--10 blinks. I called the concierge service and as soon as he learned I was outside of the warranty, the best he could do was to tell me to take it to one of their authorized service centers to pay to have it checked out. The nearest one to me was in Hollywood, which, without traffic, is 40 minutes away--with traffic could be more than an hour and a half. I could not believe they didn't have anything closer. I mean c'mon, this is Southern California--there are electronics stores everywhere! So since we bought it from Sears, I had one of their repair guys come and check out the TV. Sears were great and I highly recommend their service. They initially determined that one of the boards had gone bad and needed replacement. This was going to set us back around $400, but we loved the TV so much we figured it would be worth it. The part was ordered, delivered, and the Sears guy came back to install it. In the process of doing so, he discovered that at least one or more boards were bad. At this point, it was not worth the cost of the TV to try and fix it. Fortunately, we were able to return the initial part and Sears refunded all our repair money we'd paid, minus their diagnostic fee. This was a pretty small price to pay considering the Sears guys had spent over 4 hours working on it. So now, several months later, we've gotten a new Samsung Plasma that so far we are very happy with. I had been a loyal Panasonic customer for a while--we've owned several of their cameras for years as well. But now I will never buy anything again that has the Panasonic name on it. My wife wanted to buy a new camera of theirs, cause she likes the old version, but I said no way. As consumers, the best we can do is vote with our dollars. To have a TV fail after only two years is ridiculous. With the widespread problems of the failure rate of Panasonic plasma TV's, and to have Panasonic not address it in any way only deepens my disgust. The only satisfaction I take now is in advising others to not buy Panasonic. I work in the visual effects industry doing lighting and compositing, and I have a lot of people that come to me for advice in what has the best looking screen. I always start off by saying, don't buy Panasonic--sure, it looks great, but it's not going to last. So far I've swayed at least 3 people away from Panasonic, and hopefully it will be more. Sure it's not many, but hopefully word will continue to spread that Panasonic is not a company you want to have in your home. There are consequences to putting out faulty products and not making it right with your consumers.

  37. Our 50" gave us the two blink of death after exactly 15 months of use (6/3). On 6/8 a tech said it was a board powered by the main power supply. He caleld Panasonic and the said replace the power supply, and that they would treat this as a warrantee issue, which is a moot point because thankfully we bought an additional 4 years at $149. I am waiting for the part.

Amazing picture, but most likely my last plasma and last Panny.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I bought the Panasonic TH-42PZ77U in Nov 07 and am now having the same 7 blinks of death light when I turn it on. Read the blogs and posts on fix-it links and it doesn't look good. Obviously no warranty, but agree that a $1500 TV should not go bad after 2+ years.

Dropped the TV off to a local TV repair center and will have to wait until they call with their analysis. Bracing for the worst.

If I have to buy another TV it will definately not be from Panasonic. Friggin' thieves.

  39. Purchased a Panasonic TCP50G10 Plasma set from Best Buy in December '09. Build date looks to be October of '09. Three weeks ago, it simply refused to turn on. I got no blinking lights, just the red light in front - a blue screen for a few minutes - then it turns itself off.

Went through all the fixes with Panasonic Concierge: unplug, remove HDMI cables, etc., and finally was scheduled for a home service appointment. Local service tech called to confirm problem and said he would have to order a part. He called back a couple hours later and said he'd just received word from Panasonic that the part was on backorder at least "until June 19".

I asked him if this seemed to be a prevalent problem and why this would be happening. He replied that it was probably because I had my TV hooked up with an HDMI cable. And that I'd probably plugged something in "hot", which I absolutely had not. The television was working fine one night and the next day it simply wasn't. He said people should hook up their plasma TVs with components and not HDMI cables. I asked him why this information wasn't supplied with the TV, or why the Best Buy installation Squad wouldn't have hooked it up that way if HDMI wasn't safe. He said, well, it could have been a power surge. I told him I had it on a power surge protector and he said, "well, by the time the surge protector detects the surge, it's too late".

After 3 weeks, still did not have the part to fix my 6 month-old P50G10. They told the local repair owner they shipped it over a week ago, but he says they ship parts for warranty work to him "overnight", so he called Panasonic and they basically couldn't tell him anything because: "They won't let anyone TALK to the people in the parts dept, I have to email. Even the people at Panasonic can't talk to the people in the parts department, they have to email." Is this like the CIA or something? Hmmm...

Anyway, he brought me a loaner that is NOT a plasma, thank goodness. But before he hooked it up, he tried my broken set and concluded that "your HDMI port is not working" and "your Direct TV box is broken". So he hooked up the new one and used components instead of HDMI and viola, everything worked. He still tried to tell me the HD port on my DTV DVR was broken and "that's what blew out your Plasma TV". ::sigh:::

He told me to call Direct TV and tell them their receiver blew up my plasma set and so I did. They laughed. They're sending me a new box anyway, just because; even though the old one is working fine with component hook-up.

Today, almost one month later, the "mother board" came in and it took him all of 15 minutes to install it. I asked him which board had gone out and he said, "the main guts of the set". It's hooked up with components, looks fine. Don't know if I'll get brave and try to hook up the HDMI cable or not. At this point, I'm holding my breath.

  40. Some of you people are hilarious. When you buy a TV with a 1-year warranty, that is what you accepted when you purchased the TV. If you wanted more warranty, you should have purchased an extended warranty. Now you crybabies want Panasonic to pay for an out-of warranty TV. Hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have an extended warranty, but I still find you hilarious in a very special way

  43. Like many others, I'm a loyal Panasonic customer (3 HDTVs in last 3 years + home theater systems), but my loyalty is being tested due to a faulty Plasma TV (other LCD TVs are fine, so far). I bought a TC-P50G10 in Sep 2009 with MFG date of July 2009. Less than a year after MFG date (~11 months), on 06/18/2010, the TV would not turn on with dreaded 7 power LED blinks. Unplugged TV from power surge and plugged in directly to wall socket per panasonic support, that did not resolve the issue. Contacted panasonic cust. service via e-mail and never received any type of reply, until I actually called in to support. I was given a case id and service tech just diagnosed the TV today (06/24/2010) -> failed SU board. Waiting on part and replacement before posting an update. Count me in to any class action lawsuit regarding panny plasmas

    ReplyDelete
  44. 06/25/2010 - Supposedly the SU board was ordered yesterday for overnight shipment but the tech couldn't perform the replacement until Monday 06/28/2010 due to parts would not make it on time.

06/28/2010 - Tech replaced SU board; powered TV on for a few seconds then TV went out again. Tech diagnosed the real problem to be the PANEL. According to specs, the panel is supposed to have 100,000 hours of life - false adverstisement. Tech put in an order for a new panel (approx. 2 days for shipment) and another SU board, since the panel caused the new SU board to go bad also.

06/30/2010 - No update yet from Tech whether he received replacement panel and board. On hold for ~17 minutes before I reached an operator on Panasonic's Concierge line. will update later

  45. We got a Panasonic 42" plasma TV a little over two years ago and then 7 red blinking lights. Fantastic picture but we will not buy another panasonic. After checking with some service folks we opted not to fix it at this time and purchased a Samsung with an extended warranty.

  47. Purchased a TH-50PZ800U 12/08 and it stopped working with 10 blinks blinking about a month ago. Called Panasonic and they deny any knowledge of such a problem. They suggested I get it assessed and then they will review the assessment. I feel that that could leave me $100 or more light towards possibly fixing it myself.

Can anyone here confirm if a power board (ETX2MM704MGH)fixed this issue with this model?

  48. TC-P50G10, purchased July 2009, failed June 2010 (lucky me, under warranty 11.5 months). Red LED nine (9) blinks (yes, not 10 or 7 -- 9) Resetting the power (holding the button in for 10 sec) kept it going a week or two. Panasonic local repair ordered an "A" board July 1, back-ordered 2-3weeks.

  49. TH-50PZ800U with 10 blinks -
I ordered a replacement power board (ETX2MM704MGH) and installed myself ($120+shipping). Wasn't very hard if you have basic knowledge of electronics. Set is now working fine. For how long? who knows? If you do not here back from me here- then it is still working.

  51. I also am waiting on a back ordered 'A' board to fix my Panny TC-p50G10- been over 5 weeks now (authorized dealer ordered 6/28). No blinking lights and nothing on the screen. This is my second Panny plasma and the last.

  52. I have the Panasonic plasma TH-50PZ800UA, under the first year warranty from Panasonic at month 10 the TV
started to blink 10 times and I called customer service, they stated that “simply” unplug the TV, wait 20 minutes
to 1/2 hour, the TV will reset plug back in and if it DOES not turn on call us back. That’s all we can do for now
UNLESS the TV DOES NOT turn on at all. At 12 months AGAIN the called customer service with the same
issue and was told again the same thing, the person stated SINCE the TV DID turn on it did NOT need repair or
replacement, call us when the TV does NOT turn on at all. So over the next few months and even twice a weeks
I called on and off with the same issue, finally my wife told me to get a case number which I did and STILL was
NEVER offered a free repair or resolution to the issue.

Who has had there TH-50PZ800U fixed for free to date?

DOES Panasonic see that there is a Power Supply issue here?

    WHat you say?

What is the best course to get them to pay.

    Thank you for your help.

  53. I also have a TCP50G10, still under warranty, and the A board has now gone out twice. The set is currently dead, waiting on a backordered A-Board. Again.
Like others, the tech guys say it must have had a surge. Hell, I had an old Sony in the same outlet as this one that never blinked in 18 years, and this Panasonic goes out twice in 3 months? Must not take much of a surge to kill a Panasonic.
And they don't have parts available for a set that is still new enough to be under warranty?

  54. Replacement panel did not work properly (3 huge white vertical bars on the panel); ended up getting a new plasma TV courtesy of Panasonic; took another two weeks to get the TV delivered and setup by service guy (he took old TV); currently watching TV on the new TC-P50G20 (2010 model HDTV)

    Panasonic plasma TH-50PZ800UA

Talked with Panasonic today, a tech guy came out and said the "P-Board: power supply board" was dead, he ordered the part, called me back the next day and said it was back ordered and did NOT know when it would be in stock, have to play the waiting game.

Also Panasonic told me they WOULD pay for the "P-Board" replacement of $205.99 but NOT the trip charge to check the TV out for issue and also the replace the part so costs me $425.00

I talked about the issues I have read on the "P-Board" and 10 Blinks and he stated that what you read on the internet from ALL THOSE PEOPLE is incorrect information and false, NOT true at all.

I was impressed how well he seemed to make it a NONE issue.

Anyways, the part is back ordered and waiting now two plus weeks, I will follow up with what happens when it happens.

Anyone have other info please share here.

I could NOT get past the Panasonic person to take it to another level which I wanted to and they said he was the one whom made the deal to pay for the replacement, no one else other than the president of the company is higher than him which I find false, he was a lead supervisor.

If you have taken YOUR problem or issue past a supervisor leave a note to whom it was, that would be helpful.

    Thank you.

  56. We bought a Panasonic Plasma in Dec 09, with a warranty from Best Buy. The motherboard/circuit board has gone out 3 times. Each time best buy/geek squad sent a technician (during a 4 hour time frame we had to take off work) just to say he had to order a part. The part came in and we took off work for another 4 hour appointment time. It was fixed. One month later same thing happended and the process was the same. About a month ago it went out the third time. They had us tell them how many blinks so they could order the part before they sent tech out again. Scheduled for today when we got a call that the tech would be out this afternoon but the part was on backorder. Needless to say, I cancelled the tech appt for today. and will reschedule when they have the part. This being the 3rd repair - I might be eligible for a new TV. After a 20 minute call to Geek Squad I learned they I could lodge a formal complaint about the TV - which I did. In 8 months we have had use of the TV for maybe 3 months and have had at least 6 service calls all related to the circuit board/mother board problem. In addition, they will not take the 50' tv off the wall or put it back on, resulting in me and my 40 something year old husband taking down each time. In addition to a new TV, I'm out money for taking off work, physical therapy costs for moving the TV each time, and many hours of phone calls. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!

STILL waiting on a backorder for the "P-Board"... its now been one whole month, NO call from the repair guy telling me the part is in and ready to arrive and install it.

Panasonic supervisor TOLD ME the part would be warranties for one year when it is installed... also someone above him would call me ask I asked for someone other than him to call me and see if they could do more than simply pay for the "P-Board" by picking up the return costs of the repair guy doing the install if the part.

No ONE ever called me back... That was two weeks ago.

Nice to see Panasonic standing behind there product and customer support.

I wish someone here had a phone number or a email address so I could take this issue to another level supervisor/

So far to date here no reply from users with problems on this forum.

More info to come as we see how long this unit sits not working.

    $2699.99 = 1 year, 5 months usage, 5 hours or less a day.

If I simply would have known I would have never purchased the item and in reading there product information I expect more.

That was my story 2 months ago. The TV has completely failed again, the exact same "board". Again, the part is not available and is "backordered" with no date as to when it will be available. Panasonic has now said they will just replace the set. I would advise anyone whose set has failed more than ONCE to ask for escalation of your case. They know these sets are .. problematic.. to say the least.

    Follow up...

The "P-Board" is on back order now for over a month and a week to date, they stated that September 9th it will be back in stock, they have a different warehouse processing process and that is why the back orders for everyone or maybe just mine.

Can someone follow up with this also.... Seems I was able to get Panasonic to pay for the "P-Board" and the repairman to come out and install it.

BUT... how long will that last with the new "P-Board" ?

Also what happens if something else goes wrong with something else, another board?

They stated the "P-Board" would be covered for 90 days, they documented everything also.

I wonder if the "P-Board" goes out again after 90 days they will NOT cover it... BUT really they should.

!.5 years.. I thought these Panasonic Plasma's lasted 30 years to half life as I was told by Panasonic.

NOTE: they stated that the replaced "P-Board" should fix the issues and be good to go for the life of the TV.

Hopefully this will be true and I can just MOVE ON with the TV and NOT worry if and when it will die of 10 LED blinks again.

    Post a update it's fixed.

    Stay tuned!!!

  62. While watching some football this afternoon my TH50PZ80U suddenly turned off and I got a 4 LED blink, which seems to be relatively rare after reading this blog. Upon plugging into a wall outlet and then back into the surge protector, the set turned on again but with a 4 inch black in the middle of the screen. This sounds like the same problem Alan had (posted April 7 2010) except my set is 26 months old so I won't have the 2 year warranty on the PANEL. Perhaps I can find a sympathetic customer service rep tomorrow (doutbtful).

  63. Our PH-50PZ80U just crapped out after 16 months with the 2 blink , hold the power button in-10 blink scnario. Went online to justanswer tv and after some multimeter checks determined the answer you all know about. The P board is kaput! I had tried twice to get someone at panasonic concierge and after waiting to the pls hold bla bla bla for 40min both times with no answer we tried Sears who told us to go to Panasonic using a different phone number.Because it is out of warranty they gave us the number of a repair shop, which gave us the impression that it was going to be a $300-$400 plus fix. I don't think that a $1700.00 tv should crap out that soon, warranty or not. Panasonic is obviously trying to avoid their obvious responsibility, but I am going to kep bugging them until they fix my t.v.or pay for the new board. I think they should be taken to court and held responsible if they don't want to fix these tv's free of charge.I always thought they built quality products?!?!?

  64. When talking to Panasonic concierge ask for a higher up manager to call you, usually in 48 to 72 hours they will return the phone call.

Ask for there name and take good notes, many times they say stuff that is NOT true so take notes

The "P-Board" is very common problem and Panasonic concierge guys you talk with seems to pass it off as a "non issue".

I had the same run around, it's well know and they will NOT admit it, also note that the 'P-Boards" have been back ordered for over 5 weeks now as I write this. with no ETA of when they will EVER be in stock.

There are two guys at Panasonic you DO NOT want to deal with that I had the pleasure of, they have a attitude problem, it's like a "take it or leave it offer" they make you feel like your a "low-life" for EVEN calling them, they need to replace these guys and get a real person whom cares about customer service and the Panasonic name.

EVEN IF THE ITEM IS OUT OF WARRANTY OR NOT.

Again if you get no place take it to another manager level, they will say I am the only one whom makes the last decision, other than me the guy told me the next one up from him is the president of the company... I just laughed at his remark and asked for someone other that him to contact me. I also write a letter to Panasonic on how I was dealt with just to let them know my issues.

The third person was very nice, a human person and really showed that Panasonic DID CARE about there customers and was able to take care of what was fair and reasonable.

All I asked was to be fair.

NOT treated like dirt and told by someone who was trying to put me in my place. THAT"S NOT RIGHT in ANY customer service position to do... Period !!!

    Give it a shot!!!

  67. Sad, sad experience with this once respected company... I tried in calm, reasonable ways to contact Panasonic with pretty much the same situation as many of these and other blog readers & contributors... a disposable, $2-grand, 50" Viera TH-50PX75U. Panasonic too told me this failure rate was acceptable... Let this be a warning to ANYONE even remotely considering the purchase of a Panasonic brand product… are you prepared to roll the dice and see if you are one of the unlucky ones to gamble with your $$$$ and be in this ‘acceptable’ failure pool. I am not. I won’t bore all of you with the details, it’s like salting a wound, but same 7 red blinks of death, light use TV, maybe about 15 months of service. First ‘repair’ cost me $273 out of pocket. Are you sitting? That ‘fix’ lasted all of appx 5-6 hours. Now that I’m in almost $300, the next repair is gonna run over $1k. Done, finished, stick a fork in me. No screaming, no yelling, I calmly went the customer service and case # route per Panasonic’s rules. Contact after contact, not only are the tv’s broken, their internal process controls aren’t working too well either.

It finally took an e-mail to Joseph M. Taylor, the new CEO of the North American operations to finally get a response. What a response it was… I’m paraphrasing here and summarizing, but basically “sucks to be you, we’re good, we’re Panasonic, and no those sets aren’t defective, no pattern of failure, everything’s good” – but to show their good-will, (sitting down again?!) they will ‘let’ me spend anywhere from $638 to $760 for the privilege of buying a smaller Panasonic product (at a discount?!), so that I will get to own another piece of engineering marvel that is Panasonic. Ummm, let me think about that… Ummm, Ummmm, Ummm, for lack of a better way to phrase it “NO WAY IN @*#&%^$!”.

I politely explained the blogs, the dozens and dozens of dissatisfied customers, the harsh words used to describe Panasonic and the poor reputation hit this will cause… didn’t seem to matter. I can only surmise that if this is ok with them, and the failure rate and public knowledge and display of these failures is ok with them, perhaps they know something about the company’s continued operations and longevity that we overlooked, that they are not saying?

In summary, two take-aways: 1.) For me, my family and anyone, a-n-y-o-n-e I can possible warn to save from this experience – THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PANASONIC BRAND PRODUCT IN MY HOME; and 2.) VIZIO and buy the extended warranty.

Tech came out and determined with Pany tech that is was an SC board 2 weeks later Tech came back replaced the board (NO DICE) Back on the phone with Pany they determined it was the P board (power supply). Today is 10/07/2010. parts have been on back order. Still no TV. Had a similar issue with my camera waited 5 weeks for that. I'm Sorry to say I will not buy another Pany product. After 4 months, they replaced the set with a new one, TC-P50G20, because parts were unavailable to fix the old TV. Fine? Nope. 2.5 months later and the new TV is now dead with the blinking lights. Customer support say I need to pay for the service company to come out and look at the TV and then send in the estimate to Panasonic and they will determine if they can help me. 75. I paid over $1400. for my 50"Panasonic plasma and bought the 2 yr "extended warranty" offered by Boscov's store where I purchased the unit. First do not waste your time on these extended warranties. They actually begin the day of purchase so in effect you have a double warranty for the 1st year and only a 1 year extension. That ended in 3/2010. Last month the screen went black while watching and would not power up. I got the dreaded red blinking LEDs (6. I then called Panasonic and they referred me to take it to one of their "authorized" repair shops. I did. The estimate cost me $50. Just got a call that one of the circuit boards (I think it was the F) shorted out and needs to be replaced. The repair will be $475. I was given a case number by Panasonic and I am still waiting to see if anything will be done by them to cover all or part of this repair.

  76. I bought my panasonic th50pz80u 50" in Dec 2008 and had the 2 blinking lights recently. If you unplugged it and let it cool it worked again.

Panasonic diagnostic guide said the 2 blinking lights means the "D" board malfunctioned but after reading other sites blogs I took a chance and bought a "P" board instead for $150 on Ebay. It works now. Apparently this is the most replaced part on the set and it is not unusual for it to go out in less than 2 years. Hardest part of fixing it for me was taking the back of the set off with over 30 screws. Also made sure I used a magnetic screwdriver as falling screws will get trapped behind other parts causing more headaches.

  77. Maybe someone here will start a class action suit... Don't hold your breath though!!! All talk and no action so far...

If you read the information about the TV's from Panasonic (or any manufacturer for that matter) they state 60 thousand hours more or less of use before it dies or something like that and state MANY MANY (30 years comes to mind if I correctly remember reading) years to half life with the plasma TV's.

So it seems they state untrue facts and we the consumers buy there products believing what is in writing. A warranty is just that and states one years parts and labor. BUT Panasonic states there TV's will last MORE that two or three years.

Someone here check into the information and post it here... you will see what Panasonic states is how long the TV's last. No one in there right mind would pay a few grand for a TV that lasts ONLY a year or two... Or is that normal these days?

Took a crap in the middle of watching a movie last night. 2 blinking light code. Set is 1.5 years old, I THINK we bought the extended warranty, but not sure. Doesnt matter as it's Sunday and wont be able to do anything until tomorrow.

Guess I'll be watching the football today on my very reliable Mitsubuhi that is 6 years old and never once given me a problem.

  80. So no one here wants to get a lawyer and start a class action suit or something?

This seems all to wrong and customer support guys you talk to at Panasonic could care less about the customer base, they treat you like dirt.

Maybe Panasonic should hear what is going on with how there customer service treats there customers, someone needs to get through to them and get this done.

    Any takers?

  83. My experience mirrors that of the original poster, except for Panasonic fixed it for me in less than a week, not two months.

I have a TH-42PZ700U 42 Panasonic Plasma TV bought new at Fry s Electronics, 9/10/2007. Manufactured: June-2007, Serial Number: PF71640450. It recently stopped working with the 7 blinking lights of death. Even though is is out of warranty, Panasonic agreed to dispatch a repair technician to our house and he fixed it. He DID have to take it back to the shop, but we had it back 1.5 days later.

I did pretty much what the original poster said: I called Panasonic and suggested that they fix the problem free of charge, because the internet reveals this is not just a random failure, it is a design issue. They didn't resist in the slightest and took care of it propmptly.

Things break, things built by humans are never perfect. Kudos to Panasonic for standing behind their product.

  84. My TH50PZ80U plasma, bought in Best Buy in May 2008, developed the 10 blinks problem in October 2010. For a week I would let it sit unplugged overnight and it would start up the next morning. Now it won't start at all. I've begun replacing components on the P (Power supply) board. So far no improvement.

I reported this to the AV Forums website. They have a master thread going with lots of plasma owners with sets that won't turn on.

  85. My P50G10 Panasonic(Pan)HDTV began to suddenly shut off after about 1 hour of viewing. It would not restart until after about 5 min, but then repeatedly shut off after 10-20 min. The LED blinked 8 times. This first occured about 3 weeks after my 1 year warranty expired. I contacted Pan and mentioned postings such as this one. I was referred to a local Pan certified repair center. The defective part was the "SS PC board", labor 198, part 118. Pan will cover 230. The TV operates correctly now. Pan required I fax the BestBuy reciept from 09, estimate, and TV info. The customer service person was actually quite helpful in explaining what to do and seemed aware of these problems.

  86. My Panasonic TH50PZ80U gave me the blinking red light of death about 2 wks ago. TV is only 2 yrs. old and out of warranty. Panasonic website says "Panasonic stands for quality" (lol!)and recommends unplugging/changing outlets. This only works for a short time. Called Panasonic who eventually offered to cover the cost of the part, but no labor. I told them that wasn't good enough. Told them I knew this became an issue because they switched to a cheaper power board manufacturer. Finally after 2 weeks of persistence, the manager's boss agreed to cover $270 of the $450 repair cost. Panasonic is simply trying to pay out as little as possible on these claims. If you have the time and energy, take your complaint up the chain of command and wear them down. I will never buy anything made by Panasonic again. They USED TO "stand for quality," but have now destroyed their reputation to save some $. Bad business!

  87. Bought a Panasonic TH-46PZ85U on 4/21/2008. About 2 months after the warranty expired the TV shut off by itself. Turned it back on and had the 2 inch Black vertical line all the way up the screen. Luckily the credit card I used extended the warranty and got it fixed for free after a lot of phone calls and paper work. Worked fine until about 2 nights ago...same thing happened. Tired of dealing with Panasonic and will start shopping for another brand of Plasma. In the mean time I will be watching my 27 inch CRT that still works the the same as it did 15 years ago despite being dropped twice.

  88. I have owned a Panasonic TH-42PZ77u since November of 2007 and it failed on March 14, 2011. Like everyone else I was very upset that my $1300 only lasted 3 years before needing a major repair. I originally called Panasonic and told them about the problem and they referred me to a local repair center. After researching online I learned that my model had the manufacturing defect and I called Panasonic again and POLITELY spoke with a customer service person explaining what I had learned. She said they were aware of the problem and would diagnose it free of charge, and if it was the SC card they would fix it for free as well. Mind you this TV is 2 years 4 months out of warranty. They called the local repair person that day and I received a call from the repair center that day as well. They ordered the part and it was actually in the next day. They came to my house and repaired the TV in about 30 minutes. This was 2 days after Panasonic agreed to fix it. I was very impressed. The repairman said that Panasonic may be the best manufacturer in terms of customer support and satisfaction. I feel Panasonic did the right thing by repairing it and they have made me a loyal customer for that reason.

  89. This pisses me off. I bought my TH-50PZ80U a little over 2 years ago. Been having the flashing light problem for the last 4 months. At first when I called panasonic, they walked me through the routine and the set came back on. now nothing. After calling Panasonic to report my problem, they said there was nothing they could do but refer me to a repair service.I am not prepared to spend another few hundred dollars to fix an item that cost me $1300 two years ago. I don't buy throwaway appliances at that price. I purchased 2 sylvania,1 LG,and a friggin toaster oven about the same time and "they still work"! I could give a rats ass about the quality of the picture if there is NO PICTURE! Panasonic should step up, but I doubt they will. My previous set was a Sony. Lasted 10 years+. Panasonic, never again.

  97. I bought a TH-46PZ80U from Best Buy in McKinney TX around New Years 2009. Mfr. date: November 2008

This week - June 2011. I started getting 2 blinks. I could unplug for a few minutes and it would start again, but today no start.

I called Panasonic - on the phone for almost 3 hours - mostly on hold. Customer service first got all my info., put me on hold, and came back and said management would not authorize a repair, but would gladly sell me a comparible new unit at a discounted price. To me that says they know this is a problem, but won't fully own up to it. Customer service then said he would make sure management would call me back by Monday evening (today is Saturday). I told him that if he was able to get up and talk to a manager - then he could transfer me to a manager now. So, I was back on hold.

Manager "Tony" picks up (which by the way, why isn't anyone in customer service willing to give their last name - is it because they know their service sucks and they don't want you to know who they are?) and basically won't acknowledge any liability on Panasonic's part and tells me to call a service center, but they won't offer to send the service tech over free of charge.

I know my tv is over 2 years old and out of warranty, but when it is obvious this is an ongoing "lemon law" issue you think a company that believes in their product and wants to keep loyal customers would own up to defects in their products.

So, unless someone can tell me the magic words to get them to send a tech for free, it looks like I will be buying a new t.v. from another mfr. - any suggestions?

  98. My Panasonic P50S10A turns off itself & then comes back again sometimes but not all the times. I get Green blinking light then steady as in on mode but no picture then turns off after some time & agin repeats same thing. I never got any red blinking light. Yesterday when it was not coming back even after 2 days i smacked at it's back in on position then switched off & on again it started working. But still turns off itself some times comes back sometimes not. Do not know what's actually wrong with it. I had it repaired while in warranty for the same problem 7 Service centre guy said they replaced P board & one more board. But i don't think they did because it started with the same problem only after 3 months of repair & now it's out of warranty & still working whenever in mood. If anyone know anything about this type of problem & what to be done please share, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks

  99. Last week I got the 7 blinking lights-o-death on my Panasonic TH-42PZ700U. It was purchased in September of 2007. I called Panasonic customer support and they sent out a local television repair service tech. He replaced large circuit board and now the television is back in business. I didn't have to pay for anything. Thank you to all those who have had less success in having Panasonic pay for this repair. You have paved the way for us. You are my hero.

  100. Hope I have such success. My TH-50PZ80U (purchased in October, 2008)has had a 10-blink failure. It started giving me trouble about 3 weeks ago but as of 3 days ago unplugging it from the wall plug no longer works...it's just dead. I've called Panasonic support 3 times. The last time, 2 days ago, a very nice rep made sure I had a trouble report number established and told me I needed to take the TV to an authorized service center for diagnosis then have them fax the results and repair estimate to a corporate assistance "team" for evaluation. I did that yesterday, June 24. The folks at APM Electronics here in Houston, Tx, were very nice. I went ahead and paid a $50 diagnostic fee which will be refunded to me if Panasonic pays for the repair. Less than 3 hours after dropping the unit off, a technician called me to let me know that it was, indeed, a power supply board failure and that he had already faxed the results to Panasonic. The service rep at Panasonic told me that they generally advise customers of a decision in 2 - 3 business days so...we'll see!

  101. Hey Greg in Houston, I have a similar
set as you the TH-50PZ850U. I have been getting the two-blinking red lights. Seems if I leave it unplugged for a while it will work again. I did send request in to ARBAT TV here in Houston, today to come have a look. I guess I will call Panasonic and see if they will pay for any of the repairs. My wife is a paralegal so I am going to have her talk to one of the attorneys to see what it takes to start a class action suit.

I have only just had a telephone call from 'Currys Customer Resolution Team' to be told that my TV (which I purchased in September 2009) is fixed and will be delivered back to me this Thursday 11th August 2011..........AND.............
That there is NO CHARGE ................AND...........
I would be refunded the £60 I have already paid in the near future.
The Currys chap I spoke to said that there had been a Power Supply Fault and that the Ysus Board and Power Supply Board had been replaced.
They had established that the fault had not been caused through negligence by me the Customer and that the problem was deemed a Manufacturing Defect and therefore not chargable.
So then, for anyone who has a problem with a TV or indeed most other, particularly electrical products after the One Year Warranty runs out I would say to try a few things.
    1. Do a Google about that particular fault to try and establish if there are lots of complaints which in turn can make it an Inherent Problem which will be covered by the 1979 Sale Of Goods act.
    2. Let the company you purchased the item from know what information you have and very nicely request that you not be charged for the repair of that particular fault.
    3. Be prepared to inform the Company that you will take the issue to the the Small Claims Court if neccessary in the event of them being 'awkward'!
    4. Do just that if you have to.

No doubt others can add good advice as well, perhaps even contradicting mine!
Thanks again for all who have helped here, particularly Old Boy who I see pops up all over the place helping people!

  103. I am happy and sad to see that I'm not alone with the blinking lights power board issue. I love my Panasonic TH-46PZ80U Plasma. It was a gift to myself. I have it mounted on my bedroom wall that my bed faces. I used a high quality "scissor jack" mounting bracket, not so I can swivel it,as much as I wanted not stuck flush against the wall. My intent was to give the TV "breathing room" It never is in contact with direct light, or excessive heat(i have a ceiling fan above my bed that runs 24/7. In other words, it is treated as well as possible in the hopes that I would get years of enjoyment from it. That all came to a screaching halt on Aug.6,2011. The TV shut off, then restarted. this repeated for several hours until all that was left was a series of 10 blinking lights that repeat indefinately. I got on Panasonic's website on the weekend, when it asked for my specific model #, I was redirected to the "Concierge Club". That was my first clue that Panasonic was having a number of inquiries about this. Today is Monday the 8th of August, I called the phone number Panasonic had emailed me along with the case # I was assigned. I had to wait 15 minutes for assistance because of the unsually large call volume they were experiancing. The customer service agent that helped me was very nice, but we spent 20 minutes having me do all of the following: unplug TV, wait 3 minutes, and telling him that nothing had changed. He said that he couldn't dianose the problem over the phone. He gave me a local repair shop to call. I asked him if this was going to be covered, he replied that he had no way of knowing. As to Anonymous, who has peppered this thread with calling us whiners because we were too cheap to pay for an extended warranty, "message received" you were smart enough to know that you were buying a defective product. Tip of the hat, wag of the finger to you Anonymous. I remember the first time I ever heard of an extended warranty over 20 years ago, the salesman said that I should get one. I asked him to show me the products that he thought made well enough that I wouldn't need this expense. I wasn't being cheap, I said that I would much rather spend that extended warranty money on a better product. Especially one that is bolted to the wall with no moving parts. I would appreciate any help in finding out how to remedy this problem that I see a great deal of poeple are having. Money is tight for me these days. I'm a disabled (Congestive Heart Failure and fused neck) Firefighter/Paramedic that misses his Plasma/ Thanks!

  104. Ah, the red light blinking issue... I didn't know it was so widespread. I live in Brazil and bought a Panasonic 50" plasma on January 2009. Two months later it failed. A defective power unit. Technical/customer support was almost impossible to find, much less talk to. One month later it was repaired. In less than one month, another failure. This time it was the plasma screen! One third of it went black, permanently... Not in the middle, but in one of its extremities. Another month without the tv. Then Panasonic called me and asked if I wanted my money back or a new tv set. I chose a new one and since then it has been working perfectly. It arrived around June or July 2009 and since then it has been working just fine. So I guess we were all very, very unlucky. Nevertheless, Panasonic should have admitted this problem!

  105. 10 blinking lights is the power supply. Part#
ETX2MM704MGH. Google the part# and it will show you places that have them (or are out of stock anyway) About $150.00. If you can use a screw driver you can replace the board, very simple. After that do what I did, sell the Panny and get a Samsung LED. What an awesome picture!

  106. Hi guys,
    I have a Pano, 42" plasma, model TH-42pz80u.
Purchased from Best buy in 2009. My warranty has lapsed and the tv quit working this weekend. You can see the backlight when you hit the power button, but nothing is functional The red indicator light is solid, not blinking. It will stay on for roughly 5 minutes, power down and then try to turn back on (indicator light still a sold red, not blinking).
Anywho, I have agreed to pay Geek Squad $150 to come "investigate", but I was hoping to get some feedback from you all on what the problem may be and what kind of costs I am looking at. I have seen all the post about the dreaded 2, 7, and 10 blinks code, but I haven't seen anything about the light being solid. Just for reference, I have unplugged from my surge protector, changed to another outlet, left unplugged for a while, etc. Nothing works. Thanks in advance for any input!

  107. It is not just Panasonic that has these problems happen. It has almost nothing to do with assmbling TVs in a south country. All TVs if not most, will have to have a repair done to them in their lifetime. I can say Panasonic has one of the best panels out there in the market. This 2 and 10 blink issue for the PZ models according to the service manual is a defective A or D board.....after a lot of searching for the problem with schematics, very few technicians have figured out that the problem is the Power supply and when replacing with another, the problem comes back. There's a permanent solution to this issue but, only very knowledgable technicians can do it. We work in the Washington State area and service snohomish County and the seattle area, so far we have a 100% resolution on this problem with no comebacks or returns. It is not up to me to discuss how to fix this problem but, there's a permanent solution out there. good luck to you all.

  108. Follow up to Plasma Fail: I had a local repair shop that was reccomended by Panasonic come out to my home and diagnose the problem with my Plasma. They charged $100 for this service. It was a non refundable charge that would not be applied to the cost of the repair.I gave the local repair shop the case#, fax#,and who to make it ATTN TO:. I called the local shop a few days later, they said that they had faxed the estimate to Panasonic. I asked what the repair was going to cost, they replied that they didn't have that information. I said, "you don't have a copy of what you faxed Panasonic?" They replied that they didn't know how much, if any, Panasonic was going to pay, they didn't know how Panasonic would apply any money given etc...Two days later, Panasonic called me and said that they were going to give $250 towards the repair of the Plasma, to be used however the local shop wanted. I called the local shop and told them that Panasonic had agreed to pay a certain amount towards the repair. I again asked him how much it was going to cost. He said that he couldn't tell me because he didn't know if the money was for parts or labor. I told him that he could take his wife out to dinner as far as Panasonic was concerned. The check was to be applied however the local shop wanted. He became very agitated with me, he stated that after my TV is fixed, he would still have to go after Panasonic for payment, and if they didn't pay, he would get stuck with the bill.I told him that as a business man he has the choice of who he does work for, and who he doesn't. I asked him if he had ever had a problem with getting payed from Pansonic in the past. He said no, that they were one of the best companies to deal with.WTF? He finally told me that it would be $186. I have no problem with a small business making money(that's why he's in business, right?)but the Cloak and Dagger BS really turned me off.I have yet to get the repair done, because money is really tight, but I got to see the top secret bill that was sent to Panasonic. It reads like this: Replace PS board, parts:$212 labor $300 less Panasonic's $250 my cost will be $286. It that a fair price? I don't know, but I think that I had the right to know what it was going to cost as soon as the local shop knew. p.s. Local guy was pissed that Panasonic had called me first and told me what they were going to pay. It's been 2+ months w/o my est. 100,000 hours of viewing on this Plasma. I have to give cudos to Panasonic, I wish they would have paid for everything, but they kicked in $250, were very pleasant to deal with, and always made timely follow up call and emails to me. Hey Local Guy: take a page out of Panasonic's customer service dept.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  109. Purchased my Panasonic on Dec 2008. Same story as everyone else. My TV would not turn on two weeks ago. Had a repair shop look at it, said it was the power board. Had it replaced and brought it home. Now the TV shuts off on it's own. Won't stay on longer than 10 mins. Don't even bother having it repaired buy a new set. I have a feeling I will be out the money I just spent having it repaired. So sad that a company as big as Panasonic won't hold their consumers to a higher level and correct this problem. If there is a law suit I sure want to be included. I would never recommend another Panasonic product to anyone.

  113. Bought a TH50PZ80U, manufactured in July 2008 from Sear Canada Inc. Right side of screen has gone completely blank without warning. Sears was very unhelpful.Told me to call Panasonic. I spoke to an authorized repair centre who advised that if there were no punctures in the screen (which apparently would cause diamond like images to appear than the problem is a failure of the electronic) drivers. He said it was "big trouble" and would be better off to buy a new one.
I understand that products fail, however based on this expereience I would not buy a Panasonic again. I proably was deluding myself to think that Sears would care, they don't. So next time I will just buy based on price from a discounter.

  116. My TH-42PZ700U died last night(Halloween 2011), got 10 blinking lights. Tried letting it sit over night unplugged, disconnected all the inputs (2 HDMI, component, and regular rca), tried different outlets. Same results. I bought it back in late 11/07. The service manual for 10 lights on this model suggest it is an issue with the DG board.

Anyways, I emailed their concierge service and they said it was out of warranty and to call a service center. So I called the Panasonic Customer Service today, told them the same things, and they said it was out of warranty. I then explained that the 700u and 77u have extended warranties because the power supplies were defective. He said, yes this is true, but the 10 blinking lights error code suggests it is another issue, and not the power supply and that a Panasonic certified service center would have to evaluate it first, but it is most likely a different issue, and will not be covered.

On the phone I suggested that couldn't the faulty power supply issue cause other components to fail, he said possibly that I will need a technician to diagnose it first.

I will probabaly call the service center just to see what they say. But I am inclined to call Panasonic back and ask them to repair it free of charge. Anyone have any ideas.

Will call Panasonic on Monday to see what they will do for me. I spoke to Future Shop where I purchased it and they were less than helpful and had no interest in assisting in any way. Emailed Panasonic and got 'sorry but you are out of warranty' answer , 'but here are 2 authorized service centers in your area, good luck' . Sat on that for 2 weeks and emailed back and said "really? I know I am out of warranty. BUT there are documented cases where you are replacing the faulty power boards that you knowingly installed. Please contact me if you wish to keep me as a Panasonic Customer"
They emailed back sayning please call so we can get more info. Went through the unplug everything, reset power etc...still no luck.
Finally offered to send out tech. They were willing to send someone out in 2 days. Tech's replaced the board, re-flashed the bios and things are perfect once again.
I had many doubts about then denying my repair , but in the end did come through for me.
My suggestion - if you are initially denied, keep pushing.

  121. I got my Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA in 07/08 and last week i turned it on only to encounter 10 blinking red lights!!! I truly did not know the problem was so widespread until I did a online search.Based on the comments I have been reading,it seems that PANASONIC have been aware of this for a long time and failed to offer any workaround or advice on how to rectify the issues encountered by it's customers other than "it's out of warranty therefore there is a charge" is just not good enough! If parts are defective then replace them? We did not set out to throw away £1000s paying for a television knowing it will break down in a few years... I always thought PANASONIC was a great brand but now i'm not too sure.

  122. Bought my Panasonic TH-46PZ880A in Aug 08 and starting to develop 2 blinking red lights about 6 weeks ago. Starting off just being an annoyance and turning off-and-on would often work, however it became progressively worse until I wasn't able to turn the unit on at all. Emailed Panasonic support in Australia and they said I need to have a certified service centre look at it and provide an inspection report, which they will not reimburse costs for. That's where I'm at now...will update when/if I achieve some kind of resolution.

  123. Merry Christmas. Not so much in are home with the same t.v. dieing for the 3rd time with the blinding red light. Can't find the recept for anymore but guessing we are going to have to buy a new one. Geek squad was the ones from best buy to fix it. First went down on 12/22/08 and fixed on 1/15/09. 2nd time was on 3/12/09 and fixed 3/20/09. Now on the eva and it dies looking for Christmas music. Ho Ho Ho

  124. For all UK consumers - Warranties are an addition to your Statutory rights! TVs should last 6-10 years, so if yours does not you can use the Sale of Goods Act (just Google the phrase) to get a free repair or partial refund (they can deduct a proportion of the cost for 'beneficial use')

My 37 incher started the 7 blinks issue tonight, will go into bat tomorrow (though I do have a 5yr guarantee which came free - I Never buy them - if I can find the paperwork).

    Will post back with results.

  125. On Dec 30/11, my Panasonic TC-P46G10, Serial #MG91410710, purchased on Aug 2/09, abruptly shut off. The power indicator blinked 7 times, paused, blinked 7 times, and so on. Attempts to turn it on, even with the help of Panasonic Customer Service representatives, were unsuccessful. The next day I took the TV to one of Panasonic's authorized service dealers. Today, the dealer indicated that the estimated cost of repairing/replacing the "main" board at $450 - 500.

This evening, I spoke with Customer Service at 877-958-4372 and asked that this cost be covered by Panasonic as it appears from my research on line that this has been a common problem and that Panasonic has been aware of it for some time. The rep asked me to e-mail them a copy of my proof of purchase along with a repair estimate. and advised me to call back in 24 hours, which I intend to do. I'll let you know how things turn out.

  126. I purchased the TH50PZ800U from Costco.com in Jan. of 2009. It still has an excellent picture but as of Dec. 2011, I can't turn the unit on without getting 10 blinks on the power light. Lately I have had to be very specific in the reset sequence as it appears to be getting finicky, probably heading towards a total failure. 1. press power button on remote, if 3 clicks are heard from the tv, power will not come on-10 blinks. 2. wait for 10 blink sequence to cycle a couple of times. 3. disconnect power plug from power strip. 4. wait for blinking light to die. 5. count to 20. 6. plug connector back into power strip and quickly press the power button after the first two clicks made by the tv. Hoping this will continue to work while I wait for a power supply card to arrive.

  129. I wished I had seen this blog BEFORE I purchased the Panasonic 50inch Plasma TV for my husband in 2008. His set stopped working over 6months ago and we have been trying to find a replacement Main Board every since. We have purchased and returned 3 boards so far. When the boards are installed the TV screen shows like a 42inch not the 50inch picture. I am determined after reading comments that go back for several years that I will be contacting Panasonic and insisting they replace the FAULTY main board they knowingly installed and sold. I will update after expressing my disappointment and concern to Panasonic.

  130. WOW...It's sad to see that such a big name like Panasonic would not stand behind it's own(junk)stuff. My wife and I saved a long time to buy the 2008 TH-50pz80U 50" plasma, within a year and a half the tv would not work and it has the 10 BLINK red light.I did the same as the other victims that I read have done, unplug wait for a few minutes then plug it back in,it would make a 2 click sound then start with the (stupid)10 blink red light! Not for nothing but people work very hard for there money and save some to buy from a big name(bully)like Panasonic. To then come to this, that they(Panasonic)will not stand behind there(junk)stuff makes me very frustrated!!!I WILL NEVER BUY ANY Panasonic PRODUCT AGAIN!!!

  132. Bought my Panasonic 50" Plasma in 2008 and just got the blinking red light yesterday. I had other Panasonic products that failed in the past but this TV recieved high reviews and was rated second to the much more expensive pioneer TV. In 2008 this TV cost more than twice the amount of what it does now, and shouldn't fail in just a few years. That was the last panasonic product I will own.

I ended up sending an e-mail requesting he problem be fixed for free. Very frustrating, and plan on contacting them by phone asap. I never heard of the blinking lights till it happened to me.

  134. Hi all! I too am joining the Panasonic haters club. Last night my 42" TH-42PZ277U died and now all I get is 10 blinking red lights. We have unplugged from surge, wall and even shutoff breaker for over 24 hours and it still does not power up. I have googled this issue and found many problems with these TVs so I am hoping someone can help and tell me if it is fixable or if I need a new TV. Mine was purchased as a Xmas gift on 11-17-07 from Sears.com.

I must add that prior to this fail we had been watching home movies stored on my laptop and hooked up to the Panny with a HDMI cable. The laptop was on battery so I am assuming I killed the power supply? I work for an engineering firm so I am sure if there is a part to fix this I can get a someone to fix it for me.

  135. I have the 65 inch plasma 3-D, purchased in Nov. 11 from Ultimate Electronics which went bankrupt recently. The set started the 7 blinking lights yesterday. I had an extended warranty, but thought it went away with Ultimate. I found out there are 3 companies that handle these warranties. Called all three, the last one I called was the one Ultimate had set me up with. They are sending a tech tomorrow, the next hurdle will be if it can actually be fixed. I will try to get them to replace everything they can, hope its not the same crappy circuit boards. I am using a local electronic repair shop recommended by Panasonic, didn't really trust a Geek Squad 16 yr old they trained last week.

  136. Panasonic has a known issue with their power supply boards. After jumping many hoops, Panasonic gave me a credit for $250.00 to get it fixed. Google for the codes of blinking red lights. The list of local repair shops that Panasonic will send to you is quite short(3 in my case) They will charge around $100.00 to diagnose something that you have already done. The power supply board costs around $230.00 give or take, they will charge you about $150.00 for labor. In my case I ended up paying around $300.00 to get it repaired. Was it worth it? in my case yes. TH-46PZ80U Made June 2008. I had it repaired about 2 months ago. Don't buy the "it's out of the Warranted period" It was defective when it was made. Be firm, not nasty with Panasonic and they will work with you, it's the local repair shops that can get shady. Good luck!

I purchased my TCP50G20 50 inch Panasonic Display in Dec 2010. 18 months later the picture starting going negative and turning off after 30 minutes with 8 blinks. Panasonic had me take it to a service center 2 hours away which charged me $75 to diagnose the problem as a bad panel. The repair estimate is $1400, more than what I paid for the TV. The official Panasonic response is that it is out of warranty, tough luck but they are escalating. It's been a week since it was diagnosed and two weeks since I had a working TV. Now I'm told I have to wait an additional week because their policy is to respond in 7 - 10 "business" days. This policy of making me wait sucks. It's their quality problem that caused my TV to fail. You shouldn't be forced to buy an extended warranty to get a $1000 TV that lasts more than a year.

  138. Ive had my Panasonic 50" (th-50pz800a) about 4years. Its been used for MANY hours every day, sometines (weekends) not unusual to run 12+ hours straight, it cops a thrashing running PS3, PC, DVD all the time. So ive had a GREAT run with it, couldnt be happier! Nearly every electrical item in my home is Panasonic and I LOVE THEM ALL!! I fully defend and support Panasonic products (tho ive never had to call or deal with customer support) and will long into the future. BUT ive just experienced the two flashing light problem. Its really only a problem when i try to restart the unit hot, not long after turning it off. After waiting half hour or so its ok. I want to address this asap as im sure it will get worse over time and eventually die completley. Its clear from my research this is either a power board or d-board issue. Can anyone tell me the best and most cost effective way to have th problem fixed?

The diagnostic power LED blinking timing chart says it the A-Board. Can anyone help with this? The symptoms are as follows. After watching it for a period of time and shutting it off. Turning it back on..no go..noticed the flashing lights 10. Check the web for a solution..not in the operation manual..got it to reset. The following day son watched it for two hrs. no problem. Turned it off. Upon turning it back on noticed the same problem with the ten flashing lights. Is this a power board problem? They refer to the power boards as P(MAIN) and P(AC). I have the back off a peace of cake!!. Is there a trouble shooting manul for it..I have it unplugged now. Does anyone know, if panasonic has fixed the problem with OE replaement parts.. «purchased Sept 2008. All these entries make for depressing news, specially for a company as revered as Pana.
My lovely TH-P55GT30A Plasma purchased May 2012 suddenly blanked out and remained dead. I unplugged from mains, replugged and watched as the red light blinked 7 times, repeating. My call to Panasonic was handled courteously and I was advised to call their service agent, AWA.The serviceman arrived a week later and inserted a new Scanboard. All is now well, but I wonder how this situation could have been allowed to go on for so long? Do they not care about their reputation anymore? Like many of you I have enjoyed decades of good service from various Panasonic/National products. I may be too nervous now to purchase any more.

  142. Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that my Tc-P50S30 plasma tv went dead on me with the 7 blinking lights. I bought this tv November 26 of 2011. Before buying this tv, I've done a lot of research and everyone gave panasonic an outstanding review. Even though my tv is still under warranty and they will repair it for free. I just don't like the fact that such products could fail in such a short time. I have a 34 inch toshiba crt tv and it still good as new for over 9yrs now. We all need to make sure that these substandard products are no longer on the market and that the manufactures of such product be responsible for all repairs and stand by their products in the future.

  143. My last post I fear. After i waited for almost 5 months and spent $386.00 to get it fixed, it died 2 months after the repair. I'm so disapointed with the Panasonic Plasma HD TV, I'll not buy another one. I spent(with repairs) almost $1500.00 on a TV that lasted barely 2 years of limited use. Not a ringing endorsement exactly. Buyer beware!!!!!

  144. I too have recently begun to experience the "blinking red power light of death" on my 2009 Panasonic TC-P42S1 42" set. I am getting a failure to turn on with an accompanying 9 time blinking red power light. What I am able to to do is unplug the TV for a minute or two and the replug the set in and it usually starts up. I have attached a small fan that directs air to some vents on the back of the TV since I suspect there might be a heat build up issue involved although I don't know this to absolutely be the case. it is very annoying. I have a couple of older CRT tvs that have worked withough incident for up to 22 years, so I am pretty frustrated with this happening to a set that is barely 3 years old. This problem started in mid to late September of 2012. I too am leary of buying another Panasonic Plasma. Sears wants $100 just to come out and look at it. I am going to call Panasonic which I have not done yet.

  150. TCP50G20, 10 blinking light of death. Called Panasonic and explained that my plasma tv of 13 months and little use would not turn on and led light was blinking. They went through the series of plug in and unplug with the same result. Told me to take the plasma to a repair shop that services Panasonic. I asked them for a work order number and was told that they did not understand why I needed a work order number "they didn't give out work order numbers" I informed them that my TV had little use and was bought as a Christmas present back in December of 2011 and without a work order number I was told by the repair shop that I would have to pay for repairs. I was then told "well my TV was out of warranty and I was responsible for repair cost anyway. I explained that after looking on the internet my problem seem to be a common problem with Panasonic TVs and that their must be a factory problem with circuit boards and that I feel that Panasonic should stand behind their products. Especially on a product that is 13 months old with little use. I explained that I have a Sony flat screen TV that is 15 years old and never had a problem. I was told that Panasonic is not aware of any problems with their circuit boards and if Panasonic had a problem "they would have recalled them." I was then asked wear on the internet did I see other people with problems. "They had no problems listed on their website forum." Well after taking my plasma tv to a service center that Panasonic instructed me to go to and paying 50 bucks for them to access the problem...I just received a call that it will take $600 dollars to replace a circuit board. I will be calling Panasonic back with the details and cost to repair. If Panasonic will not stand behind their product of little use and 13 months old they will never get another nickle of mine and believe me.... I will let everyone I know how I feel about their products. I will let everyone know how it turns out??

  151. I encountered the 7 blinking lights of death on New Years eve Day. The set was a 50 " plasma & 13 months old.
Luckily I had bought a 4 year extended warranty & the "Brick" credited my account the exact amount that I had paid plus the tax.

I Brought in all of these comments printed & the salesman told me that they had fixed the problem. So I ended up buying another Panasonic 50" 3d T.V. that day with another extended warranty.

My advice to people is always purchase an extended warranty on any expensive electronics these days.
The extra $200.00 is well worth having piece of mind for 4 years. Because a repair is going to set you back $3-600.00 anyways. And if the T.V. lasts that long, it will probably go another 10 trouble free years.

  152. I have the same problem on my 46 inch plasma, but I have an extra treat. I have a large crack on one side of my set that they are trying to tell me could have come from nothing but direct impact; in other words, something hit my set. NOTHING hit this set, and I am certain that something to do with the bad boards and high amount of heat off of this set caused the crack. I am fighting with Panasonic thru emails trying to make them accountable and get some kind of resolution, this set is just over a year old and on extended warranty and all they keep telling me is to see if my house insurance will cover it. SO ANGRY. What rotten service. Innumerable emails so far. Would love hearing from anyone else that has had mystery cracks on these sets and what the outcome has been.

  154. Panasonic TH-50PZ800U, 7 red blinks. I think I bought it 12/08 used it in the Las Vegas desert for almost 4 years with no problems until I moved to Philadelphia. Started happening last fall but I thought it was not getting enough power from the old house. Was unplugging all devices on the circuit, unplugging the TV for 10 mins or so and holding power for 10 seconds to reset. Although not ideal, it seemed to do the trick. Didn't happen all winter so I completely forgot about it. Today, the first real muggy day of the spring and it started happening again so I'm wondering if it has something to do with humidity now. Same steps as last year and it started working again but it's a real pain. I don't live in the rain forest or even Florida. This is spring in the northeast. Makes no sense. Not sure what to do.

  155. Wow, I feel lucky after reading these comments that I got four years of good use out of my TH-46PZ80U. It just started doing the two blinking lights tonight when my daughter changed channels during a rain storm. I don't know if there was an electrical surge at that moment or what. I'll be talking to a local repairman in the morning who has done work on my dad's TV for reasonable rates in the past, but I may just end up buying a new TV if his estimate comes in too high. It's a shame, because I really do like the picture quality on the Panasonic. I almost wish it had happened in the first three years since it had a year of additional coverage from purchasing it at Costco, and a year on top of that for paying for it with their preferred credit card. Oh well. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

  161. I purchased my Panasonic TH-42PZ77U from Sears in late 2007. GREAT Plasma TV. Loved every minute of it until late 2009 when she would no longer turn on. Just a power-on "click" followed by a power down "click", then 7 flashes from the LED. At that time in '09, there were no known causes or solutions to the problem and yes, Panasonic was giving a "out of warranty" answer. Estimates were $400-600 to fix,...maybe. I could not afford that, besides it MIGHT be the power supply, it MIGHT be the SC board, it MIGHT be the SD board. Plus the idea of lugging it to the repair place was unattractive. I instead, bought a cheap 720p LCD and wrapped the Panasonic up and put it in storage to tackle it another day.

Fast forward 4+ yrs and I find out Panasonic, back in early 2011, started covering the 7 flashes issue. I called Panasonic cust serv today (12/24/13) and after giving them my serial #, I find they are still covering the issue as an extended warranty.

Panasonic set me up with a local tech company and set up my appt. I have already heard from the service company confirming my appt for next week, have already ordered the part, and are coming to my home to repair. I can not believe that, 6 yrs after purchase, Panasonic is still covering the issue. I know there was a lot of anger at Panasonic for this issue, and I was one of those people. I spent $1200 on a TV and it lasted just under 2 yrs. And yet 6 yrs after I bought it, the situation is finally being set right.

Wish I knew all this in 2011, but then maybe if I filled out the warranty card I might have...

  163. I have also experienced the 7 flashes now with my PANASONIC TC-P50S30. About 2 weeks ago, my daughter turned the TV off, and it will not turn back on. I have done the standard T.S. methods long before I even spoke with a Panasonic rep. Unplug everthing, plug into wall without power strip, try a different outlet, blah, blah, blah. It took 15+ minutes before I was able to talk to a person, and that was the 2nd and 3rd calls. The first call I never spoke to anyone so I hung up after 35 minutes of waiting listening to "your call is important to us" message. Anyway, TV is less than 18 months old, and now useless. I have "old school CRT" TV's that are over 10 years old, and STILL WORK! They have been used & abused by my kids, and are still being used with game systems attached. Cost far less also. These new TV's are far to expensive to break this soon; (With or without a warranty, extended or not.)

  164. Just found your blog (unfortunately). Thanks for posting this. TC-P50S30, DOM February 2009, purchased from Sears, 7 blinking lights after about 2-1/2 years. Called Panny, CSR gave me name of local place. I'll call them tomorrow, talk to the guy, see what I can find out before calling Panny back. I'm very glad to be able to read that Panny has paid for other folks' repairs that were out of warranty. While that doesn't give me great hopes, it's still a little bit of ammo to have in my pocket when I go back to them.

  165. I had the dreaded 7 blinking lights of death and was told by my TV repairman that it would be cheaper to buy a new TV. Panasonic didn't want to know as the TV is 8 years old.... so I did some research and found a wonderful guy who spends his working week fixing these faulty boards (not just the 7 blinking lights but other faults). I am not technically savvy but managed to get the board out and put back in again and the overwhelming sense of achievement, plus gratitude to Martin and the fact I've saved hundreds of pounds is very good indeed. The TV is working perfectly again. Not sure I can leave his contact details on this forum?? but very happy to pass them on if someone would like to contact him. His charges are very low. He is in the UK but I live in France and he was happy to post to me.

  166. My name is Deven and I have the P50G10. I don't watch tv very often. Mine was made end Nov. 2009 and I bought in 2010. Should have not listen to the darn Best Buy guy as I wanted to buy a Samsung however he said this was a good plasma energy efficient ect...and since the new model is coming out, this ones is much less.
Well, I fell for it. Now T.V's are cheap back then I spent a good amount. Well, I don't even have cable just a thing in my window that let's me get my free local HD channels. I am on my laptop more than anything. The thing looks brand new and seriously has not been used hardly.
I have a vertical whitish line going from top to bottom and when looking at the tv it's all the way to the right. Well, I thought I seen it maybe last year but it was so minimal I thought that I was just seeing things. Well, it's gotten a bit more noticeable now.
I called Panasonic as soon as you goggle this model whether it be a 45, 50, 54 they all have the same thing, it starts like this then gets the black bar, then the lights of death. I am not too that point but am really upset.
The Manager said that sure we can send a service guy but I have to pay for costs. I said that is unacceptable that this is a known problem, just Google it and you will see the thousands of complaints.Bottom line gave me the address to Consume Affairs in VA and I have to write a letter of complaint. I am seeing red. I am unemployed (lucky me) and have gratitude for surviving a serious accident but it has been a long, long recovery.
My friend has a 2008 Samsung Plasma and she wanted to trade because she said mine was bigger. I told her I can't as I noticed the line. However, when I helped her with her's the picture quality was amazing...

    Anyone, have suggestions?????

  167. I have a panasonic TH-50PX80u with a partial picture that sits near the top of the screen. It takes up about 25% of the screen. The rest of the screen is dark. When I turn it on I get a solid power led with no blinks. Which board is bad?

  168. Hmm...have a th50ox75u, 50". Has a black glowing screen. SD card works fine, can see all content. However: no other channel works. The TV, Component, HDMI, and Video inputs don't work. No sound, either. However, the remote can still bring up and affect changes to the tv, including a reset option and a lock option, which work. Anyone have an answer for this?

  169. Heard a loud pop on our tv. 10 blinking lights of death is all we get now. Only had our 50 inch Panasonic Viera for 5 years. What a waste of money.
